In this vital role you will champion and lead supplier driven Value Optimization deliverables across Amgen to include - M&A driven Value Delivery (current & future); Enterprise level Value Extraction & Wave Plan Accountability; Influence & Implement Organization’s Operating Model and lead for Sourcing in emerging strategic enterprise and Procurement initiatives. This leader will manage a dynamic Sourcing Team, comprised of both internal and external resources, passionate about identification and delivery against the Enterprise’s top Value Optimization priorities, which will flex over time but can include Leading through a variety of ongoing ground-breaking workstreams within the Global Procurement Organization.
As a Director Strategic Sourcing you will report to the Chief Procurement Officer and:
Lead Business Partnering to deliver agreed upon outcomes tied to Integration & Supplier Value Optimization business goals
Be a trusted advisor to Executive Leadership teams, in order to influence and craft the Sourcing Agenda linked to Supplier Value Optimization (Base Amgen Business)
Champion a rolling 12 quarter pipeline of projects to deliver ~$100M / per annum, aligned to financial commitments, through delivery of Quick Win, Strategic Sourcing & Transformational initiatives
Procurement lead for emerging strategic corporate and Sourcing initiatives (typically confidential) including M&A.
Recruit, Develop and Manage a team of 8-15 members, both an internal team and external resourcing capabilities while encouraging a culture of diversity and inclusion
Lead sourcing strategy tied to Supplier Value Optimization opportunities, while identifying ongoing incremental savings throughout Integration and Normalization phases
Enable supplier related solutions aligned to Amgen’s growth ambitions outside the US
Be a sourcing professional with strong financial competence, experienced with accountability to business partner across the Finance Executive Teams
Serve as a thoughtful partner and actively challenge work to deploy the most comprehensive and creative solutions to improve outcomes related to Amgen’s Value Extraction commitments
GSS decision maker on Value Optimization sourcing delivery while partnering across GSS Category Management, Sourcing Excellence and Regional teams
Develop goals and prioritize team's work across multiple Integration and Value related initiatives, ensuring effective utilization of available resources
Bring Industry/business function-specific knowledge and experience to delivery

Basic Qualifications:
Doctorate degree and 4 years of directly related experience
OR
Master’s degree and 8 years of directly related years
OR
Bachelor’s degree and 10 years of directly related experience
AND
4 years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs or directing the allocation of resources
Preferred Qualifications:
Diverse Global Sourcing / Procurement experience within and/or external to the Pharma industry
Experience in managing a broad range of categories with specific savvy to Commercial, G&A and Technology related indirect services
Broad knowledge of the market forces crafting a customer’s business context (e.g. supplier base, legal and regulatory environment, sources of competitive advantage)
Demonstrated experience in identifying and using full set of sourcing levers to drive value for customers
Ability to conduct benchmarking to address cost, quality, risk and innovation considerations
Ability to provide thought leadership and actively craft strategy within and external to GSS
Independent self-starter and able to empower others to accomplish high-reaching targets & ambiguous tasks
Ability to lead teams in a matrix organization, while influencing indirectly across functional reporting lines
Ability to guide, coach, and mentor direct reports
Consistent track record of identifying root causes to issues and problem-solving skills
Change management experience with large and complex organizational transformations
Demonstrated success in establishing & partnering cross-functional teams
Ability to build, own and strengthen relationships with key customers and to champion change
Compelling and persuasive communicator (oral and written) with excellent interpersonal skills
Knowledge of Sourcing Strategy Development, Sourcing Execution, contract negotiations, and supplier relationship management.
Strong understanding of standard methodologies in Global Sourcing and Procurement
Ability to analyze, summarize, and present insights based on the needs of the audience
Ability to champion opportunities with quantifiable financial benefits

The annual base salary range for this opportunity in the U.S. is $169,908 - $205,383.
