What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Assistant position at AMHC?
AMHC is excited to announce the opening of the Medical Assistant Position in the Calais Outpatient office. This is a full-time position and will perform a combination of clinical and administrative tasks to support the psychiatric and medical service providers. He/she shall work closely with AMHC Nurse Practitioners, and Medical providers to ensure client access to service and integrated health care.
Responsibilities & Expectations:
- Administrative Duties would include:
- Schedules appointments for new clients, as well as recurring visits.
- Provides appointment reminders to clients.
- Reviews clinical records prior to appointments to ensure all required documentation is current.
- Supports the providers in obtaining needed documentation from the client.
- Ensures third-party authorizations for reimbursement are current.
- Handles correspondence to external resources or clients to coordinate care.
- Obtains other medical records, lab results, and medication information from external providers.
- Arranges Tele-health services as-needed.
- Works with other AMHC staff to ensure expectations are met.
- Clinical Duties would include:
- Obtains medical histories for new clients.
- Takes and records client vital signs.
- Provides education to clients regarding medication prescribed by the provider.
- Authorizes drug refills and provide prescription information to pharmacies, as directed.
- Coordinates care with local pharmacies and other community medical providers.
- Check HealthInfoNet (HIN) for additional client medical information and usage of the health care system.
- Other Duties would include but not limited to:
- Keep client and company information confidential.
- Provide a welcoming environment for individuals seeking mental health, substance abuse, co-occurring, community support, and rehabilitation services
- Follow all required safety rules and regulations.
- Make sure that the work and service that you provide is the best that you have to offer.
- Keep work area clean and organized on a daily basis.
- Work as a member of the team in the performance of duties.
- Be punctual for scheduled work and use time appropriately.
- Perform duties in a conscientious, cooperative manner.
- Maintain a positive attitude.
- Be available and flexible to meet client and company needs, including overtime as needed.
Schedule:
This position is considered non-exempt in relation to the pay provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act. Normal agency business hours are 8:00am to 5:00pm, Monday through Friday. However, from time-to-time working hours may extend beyond normal business hours. If this occurs, compensation will follow Wage and Hour guidelines established under the Fair Labor Standards Act as identified in Section 402 of the agency's Personnel Policies/Procedures Manual
Qualifications:
A Certified Nurse’s Aide or certification as a Medical Assistant is required. Further, the individual must have good communication skills both verbal and written. He/she must be able to organize and structure schedules for themselves and others. Appropriate use of interpersonal skills to work effectively with all clients and the general public both telephonically and in person
