Amherst College invites applications for the IT Project Manager position. The IT Project Manager is a full-time, year-round position, starting at $90,000 - commensurate with experience. Given Amherst's distinction as one of the most diverse liberal arts colleges in the country, the successful candidate will demonstrate the ways in which they bring value to and will work towards supporting a broadly diverse community.
Reporting to the CIO, the IT Project Manager supports major projects within the IT Department. The Project Manager works independently as well as collaboratively to lead and facilitate technology projects throughout the department and the institution. This role requires an outstanding blend of leadership, project management and business analysis skills, and an understanding of both Agile and traditional project management principles. The IT Project Manager will play an important role in advancing the objectives of the Information Technology team and will work closely with various stakeholders to enhance the efficacy of business and IT processes.
The Project Manager is expected to keep their skills and knowledge current and to keep abreast of evolving best practices and new PM-related technologies and methodologies.
The Project Manager takes appropriate actions to support a diverse workforce and participates in the College's efforts to create a respectful, inclusive, and welcoming work environment.
Due to the nature of the position, work outside normal hours of operation may be required.

Summary Of Responsibilities
Project Leadership
- Provide strategic guidance and leadership to ensure successful project outcomes. Analyze business and IT processes to identify inefficiencies and gaps and lead efforts to develop and implement effective solutions. Create and implement Organizational Change strategies to support adopting changes and realizing project benefits.
- Lead the various stages of a project's life cycle, combining appropriate project management methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, etc) as needed. Develop detailed project plans, including schedules, budgets, risk assessment, and resource allocation and deliverables. Lead and monitor project execution and assess project effectiveness. Convene and lead project team meetings, help define project objectives, and ensure successful monitoring and control of projects. Collaborate with departmental leadership to understand business needs and manage stakeholder relationships effectively.
- Engage with leadership, cross-functional teams, and a variety of stakeholders to lead institutional projects and support strategic initiatives. Lead cross-functional workgroups to improve business processes and execute solutions for complex initiatives.
- Document Project progress and produce progress reports, develop dashboards to support external visibility into project milestones and schedule. Ensure that projects are documented and fully outlined, including: project description, stakeholders, meeting notes, schedules, plans, review comments and any other project-related documents.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
- Knowledge of project management principles, practices, techniques, and tools.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- A high degree of professionalism.
- Outstanding oral and written communication abilities.
- Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
- Ability to develop, plan, and implement short- and long-range goals.
- Experience in a Project Management (or equivalent) role for 5-8 years (possibly as part of a team.)
- Commitment to effectively working with a diverse community.
- Advanced degree or equivalent experience in a technology field.
- Strong background in project management with experience in both Agile and traditional methodologies.
- Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
- Experience handling implementations and upgrades in a complex IT environment (involving on-premise and SaaS/Cloud solutions, solutions involving extensive data integrations, solutions requiring risk management, and so forth.)
- Certification in PMP, CAPM, CSM, and/or ITIL4.
- Familiarity with the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC.)
- Experience managing capital IT projects.
- Certification in one or more Project Management methodologies (e.g., Scrum.)
- Demonstrated planning and Project Management skills within a higher education environment.
- Advanced analytical, evaluative, and objective critical thinking skills.
- Ability to effectively summarize and present information through reports and dashboards.
- Experience with multiple project management toolsets, specifically including Asana.
- Demonstrated ability to incorporate accessibility and a commitment to diversity in their work.
