The Pharmacy Manager is responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating the overall operations of long-term care pharmacy as the Pharmacist-in-Charge. This position will ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, of compounding and dispensing of prescribed medications, and provide functional supervision to professional and support staff.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

- Manage the day-to-day activities of pharmacy dispensing and input departments including all pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and pharmacy intern students
- Responsible for strategic planning, design, operation, and improvement of pharmacy input and dispensing in conjunction with pharmacy operations
- Monitor and audit controlled substances from receipt to delivery to ensure no drug diversion on a routine basis
- Monitor and audit all dispensing and input activities on a routine basis
- Monitor pharmacy expenses to maintain budget requirements
- Ensure pharmacy dispensing is conducted under a safe and efficient workflow
- Ensure a high level of customer service is provided to all facilities serviced; work closely with care coordination team to further ensure superior service is delivered
- Responsible for strategies to ensure safe and effective patient care during drug dispensing and product storage
- Develop and maintain policies, procedures and processes that promote safe, efficient, and cost-effective medication use which comply with state, federal, and other regulatory agencies
- Recommend process and policy improvements to ensure quality of patient care and to increase revenue
- Compile weekly, monthly, quarterly reports; develop and maintain KPI’s including compliance metrics and root cause analysis
- Prepare and coordinate dispensing pharmacist and pharmacy technician schedules to ensure proper staffing coverage
- Serve as an active member of Pharmacy Compliance Committee and Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee
- Analyze processes and collaborate with employees to develop and implement methods to improve internal and external quality; continually seek ways for improvement
- Determine the appropriate number, type, and qualifications of staff to meet patient care needs and satisfy regulatory requirements
- Evaluate and advise on the impacts of short- and long-range planning, introduction of new programs/strategies
- Routinely evaluate pharmacy staff
- Attend meetings and in-services as required
- Other duties as assigned
- Ensure all pharmacy staff are licensed, certified, and/or registered and have completed mandatory continuing education
- Plan and implement procedures according to policies, regulatory and legal requirements
- Maintain confidentiality of work-related information and materials in compliance with HIPAA regulations
- Adhere to the principles of the Employee Standards and Code of Conduct and report any violations
- Knowledgeable and compliant with current company policies and procedures and state and federal regulations
- Routinely and effectively communicate expectations with pharmacy staff
- Communicate information effectively to supervisor and others in a timely matter

- Education:
- Graduate of a College of Pharmacy accredited by the American Council on Pharmaceutical Education with a Doctor of Pharmacy degree or equivalent
- Experience:
- Five (5) to ten (10) years of progressive management experience, preferably in a long-term care pharmacy
- License/Certification:
- Active Tennessee Board of Pharmacy Pharmacist license; willingness to obtain other state licenses as needed
- Other pharmacist licenses as required
- Must complete continuing education as required by Tennessee Department of Health
- Accomplish department objectives by supervising staff; establish goals for performance; set deadlines in compliance with company's plans and vision
- Develop personal growth opportunities; provide constructive feedback and coaching
- Organize workflow; ensure employees understand their duties or delegated tasks
- Monitor employee productivity
