A. Morton Thomas and Associates, Inc. (AMT), an employee owned consultant engineering firm, is seeking to add a dedicated and experienced Survey Instrument Operator to join our Herndon, VA office.

AMT currently holds multiple multiyear Engineering and Survey On-Call contracts with various state and local agencies performing transportation surveys, boundary surveys, topographic surveys, 3D Scanning, and construction stakeout services.

Salary
$18- $24 per hour with optional overtime
AMT has developed a reliable system of allowing field staff the ability to direct travel to and from the jobsite. This allows for a flexible work life balance while still accomplishing our project goals. Occasional office visits are used for project kickoffs and debriefs.

\n- Operate survey instruments including robotic total stations, level, data collector, and GPS -RTK instruments. Perform data collection, and perform stakeout on various types of survey task assignments. Perform daily field work support to the party chief.
- Travel to assigned work site and perform survey task as directly by party chief.
- Operate survey instruments and data collection using proper survey procedures to data collect survey information and to perform stakeout of survey points.
- Provide support to party chief for processing of survey data, mathematical computations, download and upload of survey data, and preparation of supporting field sketches, field book data entry, and site pictures.
- Work on 2-person or 3-person field crew to provide assistance to the party chief
- Perform manual labor including cutting brush for survey lines, carrying stakes and survey equipment, and opening manhole covers and grates to obtain measurements on storm drain and sanitary sewers.
- Maintain and check company vehicle, equipment, and supplies before leaving for your project on a daily basis. Ensure equipment is fully operational, and batteries are fully charged.
- Wear appropriate safety equipment and follow established safety practices and procedures established by management.
- Other duties assigned by the supervisors.
- 1-2 years of experience in surveying
- Must have knowledge of field surveying procedures and ability to operate surveying instruments. Knowledge of GPS, engineering design software and total station and data collector. Familiar with CAD and Office Suite.
