NOTE: The department is a 24/7 Operation. Incumbent may not be assigned a set work schedule. Candidates must be able to work days, nights, weekends and holidays.
SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
Must be familiar with Amtrak and New Jersey Transit trains, have a thorough knowledge of timetables and connections, must compile up-to-date book on schedules and train information pertaining to the job. Must check tickets of passengers in the Seating Area and interface with the public in a courteous and efficient manner. Must be qualified to operate the Solari System Console and be familiar with the Arrow terminals. Must make announcements over the PA in a clear, comprehensive manner. Must assist disabled, elderly customers. Must perform other duties as may be assigned. Manifests will be disseminated to Conductors and On-Board Service personnel where applicable Employees will be available to assist supervisors and Desk Clerk between train assignments and checking tickets.
PREFERRED WORK EXPERIENCE:
Prefer some experience in a service-oriented position.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Employee must conform to Amtrak’s Standards of Excellence and prescribed code of dress.
COMMUNICATION AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.

In accordance with DOT regulations (49 CFR § 40.25), Amtrak is required to obtain prior drug and alcohol testing records for applicants/employees intending to perform safety-sensitive duties for covered Department of Transportation positions. If an applicant/employee refuses to provide written consent for Amtrak to obtain these records, the individual will not be permitted to perform safety-sensitive functions.
