Description of the department and position (Purpose & Objectives):
Produce extensive in-house fundamental research utilizing a value based approach and careful assessment of risk to identify opportunities for superior risk-adjusted returns.
The Credit Research Analyst is responsible for covering one or more industries in the corporate markets and will work on corporate credits, making recommendations across the capital structure (loans, secured, unsecured bonds, preferred securities, convertibles). The analyst will be asked to conduct analysis, make fundamental recommendations on covered names, assess new issues and identify opportunities in the secondary markets. As an integral member of the investment team, the analyst will need to work closely with other analysts, sector team members and portfolio managers to develop investment strategies in assigned sectors.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop, over time, a broad working knowledge of Fixed Income asset classes
Collect, maintain and analyze statistical and quantitative data to support fundamental research and identify relative value relationships to make recommendations across the capital structure and between companies within the same industry
Manage assigned coverage list and develop strong working knowledge of multiple industries with the ability to assess competitiveness, barriers to entry, margin and cash flow dynamics
Write credit summaries based on research with buy/sell/hold recommendations, build and maintain company financial models to support investment thesis
Develop proficiency in performing advanced sensitivity analysis, recovery analysis and DCF models
Interact with rating agencies, Wall Street analysts, and other independent sources to obtain external views on individual credits or industries
Support team with ad hoc team-based projects and team goals
Requirements:
Education and Experience
3-5 years of credit experience
Bachelor degree plus progress towards an MBA and/or CFA Candidacy
Skills/Knowledge
Broad knowledge of Capital Markets, Bond Math and Economic Business Cycles
Possess analysis skills (financial, quantitative, effective writing, and presentation)
Working knowledge of multiple industries. Ability to identify, forecast and communicate key industry and company drivers: competitiveness, barriers to entry, cyclical margin and cash flow dynamics
Strong working knowledge of Accounting Principles and Financial Statement Analysis, Excel and Bloomberg skills, knowledge of Python a plus
Strong written and oral communication skills, ability to influence investment decision-making
An understanding of sustainable investment principles and knowledge of ESG factors.
