Under regular supervision, and according to established procedures, performs a variety of routine laboratory support procedures including order entry, specimen/material pick-up, transportation, tracking, receipt, and processing. May utilize a variety of information systems to perform tasks. Operates and maintains pre and post analytic laboratory equipment which may include laboratory automation. May perform occasional phlebotomy service if required at that site. Interacts with patients, laboratory staff and caregivers in a courteous and professional manner.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
High school graduate or equivalent required.
Strong computer skills; Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
Experience in a medical setting, hospital or clinic laboratory preferred.
Familiarity with medical terminology and human anatomy preferred.
Candidate with college-level course work in science preferred.
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and demonstrate exceptional customer service skills required.
For positions requiring phlebotomy, a minimum of two months training and experience in Phlebotomy is required.
Training and experience can be obtained in a formal program or in a volunteer program under the oversight of an experienced phlebotomist who supplies a reference.
For assignments requiring travel off-site, candidates must possess and maintain a valid Michigan motor vehicle license and reliable transportation with insurance.
