Job Posting for Certified Vet Tech at Anderson Humane
Responsibilities Include:
Handle and restrain patients with skill, a high level of care, and compassion while being attentive to their needs and well-being.
Treat all animals humanely with compassion, regardless of circumstance; promote a caring attitude toward animals.
Administer veni-puncture, catheter placements, and SQ/IM/IV injections; perform blood draws.
Perform with veterinarian supervision: urinary catheterizations, fine needle aspirations and abscess punctures, cast/splint application, dental prophylaxis.
Calculate drug dosages, prep and administer medications, and non-Rabies vaccines according to clinic protocol.
Complete at least twenty hours of continuing education for license renewal every two years. Keep current on companion animal medical and behavioral issues.
Conduct anesthesia induction and intubation; monitor and maintain proper levels during surgery with veterinarian supervision.
Share ideas during solution-based discussions on how to improve animal care and increase process efficiency.
Maintain constructive professional relationships, demonstrate respect for everyone contacted; understand the impact of your work on others.
Quickly absorb and discern complex issues; makes decisive, principled decisions under highly emotional or stressful conditions.
Assist with and perform other tasks as delegated.
Qualifications/Skills:
Degree in an AVMA accredited veterinary technology program; at least two years of professional vet technician experience a plus. Must hold valid IDFPR license to perform humane animal euthanasia.
Schedule must be flexible to work occasional weekend, weeknight, holiday shifts and work non-standard hours when needed.
Demonstrate clear and concise, written and verbal communication skills.
Support and understand the benefits of low-stress, fear-free handling and positive reinforcement training in a veterinary clinic environment.
Multi-task successfully and adapt swiftly to changes in the environment, protocol and priorities without being overwhelmed.
Supports Anderson’s mission and vision; desires to help advance the organization.
Remains calm and professional in potentially stressful and emotional situations.
Is mature, self-motivated, reliable, and honest with an outgoing, participatory work style.
Maintains focus during frequent interruptions; works independently with confidence.
Compensation:
$20-$25 an hour

Work Environment:
Willingness and able to work with domestic animals of all temperaments and species. Exposure to high noise levels; potential exposure to zoonotic diseases, animal bites and scratches.
Physical Activities:
Ability to drive, stand, bend at the waist, squat, walk, and talk for up to eight hours a day; lift at least fifty pounds with assistance. Work a flexible schedule with regular weekend and evening shifts; weeknight and some holiday shifts will be required.
