An Accountant II is responsible for month-end closing procedures, reconciling general ledger accounts from various sections of the financials, analyzing variances and unusual activity within the financial statements, and various journal entries. The Accountant II accomplishes the accounting and organization mission by analyzing financial data, providing guidance and recommendations, meeting deadlines, providing sufficient documentation for financial results, and identifying and addressing issues. This role reports to the Financial Accounting Manager and is part of the Finance, Accounting and Compliance team. Here’s more of what you will do… (OK, not all in one day!) Performs account analysis, accruals, and reconciliations for various balance sheet accounts. Prepares general ledger entries by maintaining records and files. Posts monthly, quarterly, and yearly accruals. Administers fixed assets, prepaid accounts, and accrual accounts. Maintains and books recurring journal entries. Completes the month-end closing financial process. Prepares and enters journal entries to record, reclassify, and accrue activity. Reconciles key accounts to be reported and analyzed before closing monthly activity. Researches invoicing and accounts payable activity to identify and correct errors. Performs account research to resolve discrepancies and respond to questions as needed. Analyzes income statement accounts for any unusual variances. Reviews General Ledger mapping issues from inventory management system. Supports other Accountant resolve discrepancies found in cash accounts reconciliations. Works with bank contact to inquire about bank adjustments or request further detail needed by Accounting or other teams. Performs account reconciliations. Works with accounting team to reconcile balance sheet accounts. Investigates discrepancies found in reconciliations and works closely with Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable teams to resolve issues. Monitors aging of outstanding items in reconciliations. Has proper follow-up communication for items over 30 days to get them cleared in a timely manner. Analyzes accounts to determine if adjustments are necessary. Communicates any unusual balances or activity to management. Analyzes financial information by verifying the accuracy of data found in reports and account balances. Answers accounting and financial questions from leadership and other department members by researching and interpreting data. Analyzes trends and explains variances by account or by department/account and determines necessary accruals; reclassifications; write-offs; and/or corrections. Runs accounting processes and reports. Ties back data found in subledger account reports to account balances and identifies if any invoices or payments are causing any discrepancies. Pulls Year to Date account activity and creates summary pivot tables for Brand Team and Sales Managers. Provides financial insights and reports to department leadership and cross-functional leadership. Develops and implements accounting procedures by analyzing current procedures, recommending changes, and updating process narratives to ensure the company complies with regulations and good financial practice. Protects organization's value by keeping information confidential, protecting company assets, and identifying fraud or overspending. Performs internal control evaluations as needed. Ensures all financial records and statements are in line with laws and regulations. Continually reviews accounting and financial processes and recommends changes and new processes based on industry best practices to leadership. Implements accounting and financial changes and new processes as needed. Works cross functionally to ensure best practices are followed/implemented and compliance-focused approach is followed. Helps accounting team tackle reconciliation cleanup projects and other miscellaneous requests.
