The Ideal Candidate:
- Recent graduate in the Education, Psychology, Nursing, or other related services such as speech and language pathology, occupational therapy or physical therapy.
- Willingness to work with a supportive family in collaboration with parents and therapists to provide opportunities for growth and development.
- Recognition that supporting this family will include but not be limited to engaging with a child additional needs supports that may include cognitive impairments, genetic disabilities, or other support needs.
- Will be engaging, understanding, and compassionate.
- Will support a behavior plan in place and assist with implementation.
- Is willing to learn to administer medication and provide needed medical care.
- Will assist with personal tasks such as transportation, bathing, dressing, and diaper changes.
- Will be willing to learn and utilize alternative methods of communication including but not limited to American Sign Language (ASL), Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS), and Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) Devices.
- Will engage in play, reading, and other activities to support growth and learning.
Qualifications:
- Experience as a DSP or other related field such as a CNA, LPN, or Educator
- A Minimum of 400 hours in the past 5 years of qualified special needs care
- Willingness to learn through shared experiences with a Host Family
- Positive and Engaging Attitude
- Ability to be Flexible and Understanding
- Strong Communication Skills
- Clean Driving Record
