Job Title: Graphic Designer

Location: Allendale, New Jersey. Hybrid (2 office, 3 days remote)

Duration: 6month Contract to Hire

Pay: $23-$28/hr

Description:

Design contemporary graphics for Branded and Private Label package art, display art and sales support materials. Support the overall sales effort to gain new accounts and service existing accounts by providing graphic support.

Accountabilities:

• Conceptualizing, designing and producing accurate electronic file mechanicals of contemporary graphic design including logos, graphic elements, layouts, illustrations, etc. for Branded and Private Label packaging, displays, brochures, flyers, coupons, labels and various other printed forms and collateral materials.
• Interpret Package Design Briefs into creative designs that communicate positioning, tone and manner, product benefits and features, and brand equities.
• Develop visually appealing graphic designs that combine PL customer guidelines with Best Practices and Marketing/Legal requirements.
• Work closely with internal colleagues to understand business objectives and create clear and compelling creative designs.
• Take project assignments from conception to finished stage. Conceive the look, design, and layout, illustrations and photography, through to completed mechanical and proofing while adhering to deadlines and project schedules.
• Must think creatively and understand good package design with attention to detail.
• Must work quickly and accurately and have a high tolerance for working with detail-oriented projects.
• Skilled creation of hand packed, mocked up, camera ready packaging for Marketing, customer photo shoots and planograms.
• Become knowledgeable in PL requirements for packaging sold in the U.S. and Canada.
• Photograph packaging and products using a digital camera. Provide color corrected, appropriately formatted electronic images. Provide computer graphic services consisting of photographs or illustrations to customers for web artwork.
• Produce accurate electronic mechanical files and accompanying documentation for digital, offset and flexo printing.
• Accurate typing and proofreading own artwork.
• Proofread and perform quality checks on pre-press proofs.
  
  

Required Education, Skills And Experience

• BA or BFA from an accredited college in Graphic Design. Relevant work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered but a degree is preferred.
• Minimum of 3 years of professional experience as a graphic artist. Experience in package design preferred.
• Knowledge of pre-press requirements and print technology for offset, flexo, and digital printing.
• Knowledge of various software formats (PDF, PNG, JPEG, EPS, TIFF, BMP, GIF, Targa, PICT, etc.), appropriate application of each format, interaction between software programs and computer platforms, and requirements for internet graphics usage.
• Must possess proficient computer skills in a Mac environment and a mastery of Adobe Photoshop CC, Illustrator CC, and Acrobat. Knowledge of Dimension a plus.
• Must provide a portfolio of past projects demonstrating the ability to create effective designs.
  
  

Desirable Education, Skills And Experience

• Experience with designing for consumer products/packaging, displays, illustration ability and photography.
• Illustration/drawing ability to create computer designed package artwork.
• Experience in interpreting the objectives of the client and translating into appealing designs.
• Ability to translate both complex concepts or vague instructions into polished designs using innovative graphics.
• Experience working directly with or for a printer is preferred.
• Knowledge of digital, offset and flexo printing requirements for Pantone, Extended Gamut and process printing including color management. Background in or understanding of color separations, trapping, dot gain, efficient layering of files, and bleeds.
• Occasionally act as lead on projects as required.
• Skilled at working under pressure. Ability to change priorities without losing focus.
• Knowledge of typography usage and be able to create clean, print ready mechanical layouts in Illustrator.
• Working knowledge of Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• Understand requirements of and be able to use various online transport media and FTP.
• Knowledge of vector and raster effects.
• Experience and knowledge using a digital camera and working with digital photos.
• Knowledge and experience in digital content a plus.
