Description of the Department or Unit | The Bachelor of Science in Actuarial Science is housed in the Department of Mathematical Sciences. The program is currently listed as a UCAP-AC program with the Society of Actuaries. The actuarial science faculty include two faculty with credentials, an ASA and FSA, one of which has industry experience. Over the last ten years, the Actuarial Science program has graduated on average 13 students per academic year. The Department of Mathematical Sciences consists of 29 tenured or tenure-track faculty, as well as more than 30 full- and part-time non-tenure-track faculty. In addition to the Actuarial Science program, the Department offers an undergraduate degree in mathematics with concentrations in business, computation, life sciences, physical sciences, secondary education, and statistics; an undergraduate certificate program in sports analytics; and a master's degree in mathematics. Over the last ten years, the department has graduated 55 undergraduate and 10 graduate majors each year on average. |

ABD Description |
No ABD consideration: Only candidates with an earned doctorate or terminal degree from an accredited institution will be considered for the position. Since ABD will not meet the minimum requirements, ABD will not be considered. ABD with reduction in rank and salary: ABD will be considered for this position. Evidence of successful defense of the dissertation must be received by July 31 for a fall hire or November 30 for a spring hire. If confirmation of defense is not provided by the deadline, the candidate will receive a new one-year fixed-term contract and be hired at the rank of Instructor. The candidate's salary will also be reduced to a lower rate commensurate with other full-time instructors in the same department. However, if degree verification is provided before the end of the one-year fixed-term contract, the candidate will be returned to the rank of assistant professor with commensurate compensation beginning July 1 of the following academic year. |
