Apple is searching for a highly motivated engineer with clear and concise communication skills to design, investigate and improve performance of light-emitting devices for a next-generation display application.
Key Qualifications
Deep understanding of compound semiconductor, optical device physics, and materials.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and people skills are required.
3 years of hands-on experience with compound semiconductor device and materials characterization in a manufacturing or research environment.
Knowledge of geometrical optics, illumination and imaging systems, and color science; some background in diffractive optics a plus.
Strong background in design and fabrication of electro-optical devices.
Experience with device level reliability and failure analysis.
Experience with current-voltage measurements and parameter extraction.
Ability to think creatively to solve complex problems.
Ability to communicate concepts and information across teams to drive important decision making.
Experience with Photoluminescence/Electroluminescence characterization.
Experience understanding characterization such as: TEM/FIB/SEM/EDX/EELS/Ramen/Auger/XPS/HALL/SIMS/XRD/ECV/Reflection/Absorption Spectroscopy/ Cathodoluminescence/EBIC etc.
Programming, simulation, data handling and modeling skills (Python/Matlab/JMP/Labview/VBA etc).
Experience with epi growth and characterization (MOCVD/HVPE/MBE etc).
Description
Identifies critical metrics impacting optoelectronic device performance, analyzes and interprets experimental data to identify trends, quantify performance, and ultimately recommend improvements. Performs a wide variety of detailed optical and electrical characterization on optoelectronic devices. Identifies and resolves gaps in characterization needs. Develops custom characterization tools, protocols, and data analysis techniques. Owns data analysis for routine device testing and provide team with reports on collected data. Works with cross-functional team to realize improved device level performance. Work closely with development team to understand failure analysis characterization needs.
Education & Experience
MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, Optics or related disciplines. Industry experience, including new product introduction, preferred.

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $121,000 and $230,000, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
