Apple is looking for a scientist with expertise in optics, human visual optics and vision science to support the development of ground breaking imaging and display solutions and technologies for future Apple products. This position is passionate about fundamental science and engineering of advanced display technologies to provide a superb visual experience for the user. The position would be within the Vision Group, a team of specialists in vision science, image processing, color science, psychophysics, neuroscience, and visual optics. Work takes place in a highly collaborative and hands-on environment that fosters scientific and engineering excellence, creativity, and innovation.
Key Qualifications
- Deep and broad knowledge of human visual optics and vision science
- Strong background in mathematical/computational modeling of visual optics and vision
- Experience in design, conduct, and analysis of studies of human optics and vision
- Understanding of geometrical and wavefront optics
- Proficiency in Mathematica, MATLAB or similar simulation and modeling tools
- Strong analytical & critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English

Apply visual optics and vision science to design and evaluation of sophisticated display technologies Guide design of optical systems to optimize user visual experience Develop display quality metrics based on visual optics and vision science Apply knowledge of individual variations in human visual optics to design of display systems Review vision and optics literature to answer fundamental image quality questions Design and conduct user studies of human visual optics and visual performance Guide feature and spec definition for future products based on visual optics and vision science Develop new products, features, and technologies based on visual optics and vision science
Education & Experience
Ph.D. or OD in Vision Science, Optometry, Optics or similar field
Additional Requirements
- Desirable Qualifications
- Experience with optical design software
- Experience with instruments such as wavefront sensors, autorefractors, lensometers
- Experience with wavefront measurements and adaptive optics
- Knowledge of linear systems theory, Fourier analysis, and digital filtering
- Experience with Psychophysics Toolbox, PsychoPy, QUEST , or similar tools
- Experience with eye-tracking technology
- Experience in developing apps for iOS
