Applewood Centers is a private, nonprofit agency providing mental health services, social services and education to children, adolescents and families living in Cuyahoga and Lorain counties. Dedicated to addressing a variety of behavioral, emotional and learning problems, we provide a continuum of care from outpatient counseling to residential treatment.
Position Description: It has been estimated that nearly 70% of children currently involved in the Juvenile Justice System experience psychological issues or distress. Applewood Centers is currently seeking a qualified mental health professional to address this issue.
Responsibilities Include:
The Crossroads Therapist is tasked with identifying, assessing, and treating young men and women who are referred to the Crossroads Program on the Lorain County Detention campus. The therapist will be responsible for clinically assessing and diagnosing individuals referred to the program as well as conducting counseling interventions with clients and families both at the center and in the home/community to meet the needs of the youth and families we serve. The therapist is responsible for running various therapeutic groups with clients to meet programmatic expectations. The clinician will also develop and make recommendations for continued services and treatment for clients once they are discharged from the program. Besides therapeutic services, the Crossroads program is managed by the Lorain Juvenile Court and the court provides aspects of the program expectations. The therapist and court personnel work as a team to successfully discharge a client during the 13 week program. The program runs Monday through Friday from 12p-8pm during the school year and 8-4 in the summer. Due to being grant funded, there is no productivity expectations! The average case load is up to 8 youth/families. We offer plenty of team support, lots of opportunities for training in models for working with traumatized and criminogenic youth and offer all the CEU’s needed to meet recertification requirements.
Qualifications:
- Minimum a Bachelor’s Degree; Master’s level preferred.
- A valid Ohio Social Work or Counseling License, chemical dependency experience or certification preferred.
- A minimum of 2 years prior experience in the delivery of mental health services to children with complex needs is essential; as well as proven experience with clinical evaluation/assessment and crisis intervention.
