Tasks include data analysis, simulation and modeling, chemical process scaling and optimization, proposal development, and much more.Applied Research Associates, Inc. is seeking a summer intern to assist staff with research and analysis.  This is a full-time onsite position, working in our Arlington, VA office. ARA scientists and engineers are working with facilities manufacturing explosives, energetic materials, and solid fuel rocket motors. We help develop mathematical models and process designs for the modernization and optimization of chemical production processes, from beaker to commercial batch. We work with current customers as well as engage with potential future customers on needs and provide a broad technical skill set to resolve a wide variety of challenges. We are also working in the areas of chemical analysis, quality assurance, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and virtual/mixed reality.As a Chemical & Process Engineer Intern, you will assist staff with data gathering and analysis, along with other tasks. You will perform literature and public domain research, data entry, data and technical analysis, computer modeling, chemical analysis, and potential site visit opportunities.  Tasks may also include supporting proposal development; review of professional journals and publications to extract and summarize information relevant to assigned research projects; research using internet search techniques, informational resources, and other available research tools.  As an intern, you will have the chance to learn through close interactions with senior research scientists and business development leadership that will provide you with opportunities for technical exploration.  You may also be required to occasionally assist with routine office tasks, such as ordering supplies, printing/binding reports, and maintaining internal library resources.Chemical & Process Engineer Process Intern Requirements:Due to the nature of the work, qualified candidates must be U.S. Citizens. The candidate must be an enrolled full-time rising Junior or higher and have a GPA of 3.0 or greater (out of 4.0) towards any B.A. or B.S. degree in Chemistry, materials science, or chemical engineering. Candidate must be able to work independently and must have good oral and written communication skills.  Chemical & Process Engineer Process Intern Desired Qualifications:A candidate with a basic understanding of chemical processing and scaling, modeling of physical or engineering systems or processes is desirable.  Basic computer modeling, programming, and data analysis skills are preferred.About Us:Applied Research Associates, Inc.
