Applied Research Associates (ARA) currently has an immediate opening for a Sewing Machine Operator. The Sewing Machine Operator will operate and tend sewing machines in order to perform sewing operations on various materials. This includes joining, reinforcing and decorating various parts and materials. They mount attachments such as needles and pattern blades and adjust the sewing machines according to the specifications provided to them.

This Sewing Machine Operator will be required to guide and join a variety of large format materials. It is important for all industrial sewing machine operators to possess in depth knowledge of industrial sewing machinery. Sound hand-eye coordination and the ability to cope with moderate physical effort will be necessary. This position will require close communication with design engineers, program managers, and technical staff for the development of prototype systems.

  • Can lift and move up to 50lbs without assistance
  • Stand, stoop, bend, crouch, crawl, push and pull for an 8-hour shift
  • Great manual dexterity
  • Demonstrated experience working as a member of a high functioning team
  • Operate an industrial sewing machine, performing a variety of stitch types
  • Properly sew a variety of units, large and small and/or subassemblies
  • Layout and cut materials using patterns, scissors, and/or cutting equipment
  • Visually inspect subassemblies and finished goods per quality standards
  • Report issues /concerns to leadership, as needed
  • Occasional overtime may be required to support business needs
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to material handling equipment, moderate noise and the use of protective eye equipment
  • Minor sewing machine maintenance (i.e., changing needles, oiling machine, changing thread, etc.)
  • Additional duties as needed/required

Required Qualifications:

  • 5 years' experience in production industrial stitching experience
  • In-depth knowledge of industrial stitching equipment such as walking foot and double needle machines
  • Extensive knowledge of industrial stitching procedures
  • Strong attention to detail
  • US citizen
  • Ability to obtain a SECRET clearance
