We have an exciting position open in Midland: Tool Designer, reporting to Greg Cole, Operations Engineering Manager. This position will be based in Midland and will be responsible for planning and designing molds and secondary tooling in a facility focused on injection molding and secondary finishing operations. This position will maximize efficiency by analyzing materials and equipment requirements and then incorporating into tooling design.
This is how your journey begins
You will:
* design molds, secondary and automation tooling for production.
* develop, evaluate, and improve manufacturing methods, utilizing knowledge of product design, materials and parts, fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment capabilities, assembly and/or secondary operations methods, and quality control standards.
* help maintain tooling history and record keeping.
* work with internal and external mold builders to maintain redline process during build adjustments.
* actively participate with design staff, mold shop, and other appropriate personnel concerning product design and tooling to ensure efficient production methods (including safety processes and ergonomics).
* when required, implement / lead projects dealing with changes, repair, maintenance, or improvement of existing molds and secondary tooling.
* evaluate and recommend tooling maintenance procedures and maintenance intervals
* confer with Management, Engineering, and other departments regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and other considerations to ensure effectiveness.
* run FEA on tooling designs when needed
* perform other job duties as assigned by supervisor.
What you will bring on the journey
* Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Plastics Engineering or similar curriculum.
* Experience: 5 years of tooling design experience
* 3 - 5 years hands-on experience with CAD software, Creo a plus
* Automation tooling experience desired
* Ability to travel from time to time
* Capability and interest to work in an industrial setting to solve problems and improve manufacturing processes.
* Demonstrate ability to apply problem solving techniques.
* Capability and interest to work in a molding facility to solve problems and improve processes.
