Job Overview:

We are seeking a Sustainability Performance Engineer to start work immediately.

APTIM's Sustainability Solutions Group is seeking a motivated mid-level Energy Engineer who demonstrates a commitment and enthusiasm for Energy Efficiency and Energy Sustainability. Successful candidates will have experience conducting energy audits and site assessments to evaluate energy usage and identify energy saving and related improvement opportunities. This person will be responsible for evaluating the economic, engineering, or pragmatic feasibility of energy efficiency improvement projects. The position is based in Dallas, TX 75234; Denver, CO 80111; Houston, TX 77042; Irvine, CA 92602; or Norfolk, VA 23510; but may be a hybrid role, with regular travel to client or project sites to conduct audits and assessments for various clients that may include spaces used for sports, hospitality, restaurant, and retail.

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

  •  Acting as a subject matter expert in energy efficiency technologies, HVAC, building envelope, local, state, and Federal energy codes and standards, and carbon mitigation strategies for new and existing buildings.
  •  Conducting energy audits and site assessments to evaluate energy usage and identify energy saving and related improvement opportunities.
  •  Conduct cost-benefit analyses, determine the potential return on investments, evaluate plans or system layouts, design objectives, align resources, determine project scope, and ensures compliance with Federal, State, or local laws.
  • Inspects and monitors primary energy flow of energy systems in building and facilities.
  •  Perform analysis of building utility bills to determine practical energy usage and trends; as well as preparing reports and technical documents and presents findings to property managers, building owners, co-op/condominium boards, and other decision makers at client buildings.
  •  Effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and customers.
  •  Lead or support strategic energy management sessions with clients.
  •  Lead or support the design of new energy savings measures, strategies, or programs.
  •  Working with other functional team leads to develop and share ideas and best practices.
  • Building relationships with program implementation leaders as well as other industry stakeholders.
  •  Ensuring compliance with all APTIM quality and safety policies as well as all OSHA regulations.
  • Must be willing to travel an average of at least 50% annually.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical or mechanical engineering from an accredited four-year college or university.
  •  2-5 years' program experience related to energy efficiency, mechanical design, energy modelling or construction.
  • Knowledge of energy efficiency technologies and energy-saving solutions including lighting, HVAC, and mechanical systems for both residential and non-residential customers.
  •  Experience performing energy audits, identifying energy savings opportunities, using tools and technology to compare cost effective energy options, and making recommendations to achieve more energy efficient operation.
  •  Experience in reviewing architectural, mechanical, or electrical plans and specifications to evaluate energy efficiency or determine economic, service, or engineering feasibility.
  • Must be able to convey complex technical subjects to non-technical audiences.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills; experience with client engagement and coordination.
  • Strong quantitative and analytic capabilities including calculation review and spreadsheet analysis.
  •  Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
  •  Proficient in Microsoft Office software.
  • Advanced written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience in the design, development, and implementation of energy efficiency programs.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced ever-changing environment while successfully managing the day-to-day responsibilities of the role.
  •  Ability to plan, execute and deliver on projects in a timely manner, with the added ability to multi-task on varying projects and initiatives.
  • Willing to take initiative and work independently when needed as well as successfully.
  •  Demonstrate capacity to work with a variety of workstyles and personalities with a focus on high professional standards, strong follow-up, and successful project execution.

Experience:

  • ASHRAE LEVEL I, II, and III energy audits, identifying energy savings opportunities: 2 years (Required)
  • Architectural, mechanical, or electrical plans: 2 years (Required)
  • Energy efficiency: 3 years (Preferred)
  • Mechanical design: 1 year (Preferred)
  • Energy modelling or construction: 2 years (Preferred)

Certifications:

  • Professional Engineer -- PE (Preferred)
  •  Certified Energy Auditor -- CEA (Preferred)
  • Certified Energy Manager -- CEM (Preferred)
  •  Building Energy Assessment Professional -- BEAP (Preferred)
  • Building Energy Modeling Professional -- BEMP (Preferred)
