Job Summary:
Aptim Environmental & Infrastructure, LLC (APTIM), is a leading engineering and geophysical survey firm with a global presence and a thriving coastal practice. APTIM is pleased to announce an immediate opening in our Boca Raton, FL office for a Senior level Hydrographer. Owning and operating a suite of dedicated geophysical and geotechnical instruments, APTIM performs full-scale hydrographic, geophysical and geotechnical surveys in support of coastal restoration, offshore renewable energy development and a variety of offshore oil and gas applications. The successful candidate will perform a variety of hydrographic, survey, and geologic work on all phases of projects.
Responsibilities:
APTIM seeks to hire a fulltime experienced senior hydrographer in our Boca Raton, FL office. The position will involve collecting, processing, analyzing and interpreting a variety of hydrographic data including multibeam sonar, single beam sonar, sidescan sonar, and other conventional and land based survey tasks. The employee will use these data to prepare hydrographic, engineering, geological and geohazard maps, technical and scientific reports, presentations for regulatory agencies, facilities siting, foundation-design and a variety of other applications in a team setting. The candidate must be willing to travel and be able to adapt to challenging offshore environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as lead hydrographer for survey projects.
- Collection and processing of multibeam and other hydrographic survey data.
- Development of plans, specifications, analyses, evaluations, maps, position papers, procedures and reports.
- Communication of technical concepts, evaluation results, plans, reports, etc. via oral presentations.
- Ensure conformance to applicable technical standards as well as company policies and procedures.
- Open for short term travel, maximum 14 days per event, for approximately 10-15% of total time.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science degree (or higher) in geomatics, geology, geophysics, geological oceanography, or related field of study.
- Certified Hydrographer is preferred
- Typically has 10 years of relevant experience.
- Must have strong technical/scientific writing skills.
- Highly proficient with Multibeam Sonar data collection
- Experience with additional geophysical systems (including chirp sub-bottom, multibeam sonar, Sidescan sonar, magnetometer) is required.
- HYPACK/HYSWEEP software experience required.
- Experience with ArcGis, AutoCAD, Surfer software are preferred.
- Works independently with minimal guidance. Usually determines own work priorities. Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience.
- Has expertise in own discipline. Applies knowledge and skills to a wide range of standard and nonstandard situations.
- Interprets customer needs, assesses requirements, and identifies solutions to nonstandard requests.
- Uses best practices and knowledge of internal/external business issues to improve products or services in own discipline.
- Monitors and controls costs within own work.
- Solves moderately complex problems; takes a new perspective on existing solutions.
- Manages own time to meet agreed targets; develops plans for short-term work activities in own area.
- Explains difficult issues and works to establish consensus.
