Summary (About This Position):
The Connection Systems North America (CS NA) team has an exciting technical opportunity for a Tool Design and Development Engineer. Under the direction of the Tool Engineering Supervisor, the successful candidate will be responsible for design and development of high speed progressive metal stamping tools supporting North America automotive terminal manufacture. The Tool Engineer will learn progressive die design skills, support tool drawing management, work with Product Engineering and Sales on new product development from inception to tool production handoff.

Your Role (i.e. Key Job Responsibilities):
- Design and build tools for new business ventures.
- Revise and improve current tools to reduce waste and improve uptime.
- Implement continuous improvements in tool quality, cost and design technology.
- Develop and collaborate with suppliers for external tool design and build.
- Share technologies globally.
- Manage tool quotes, risk assessments, funding, purchase orders, spending forecasting and timing.
- Meet business case objectives for cost, and quality.
- Modeling of existing Auto CAD Tool Designs into NX, improve die design and part manufacture.
- Ensure compliance with customer specific requirements (do not remove item – BSI requirement)
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Tool Engineering Technology, or Tool and Die Journeyman
- Proficient in AutoCAD or Briscad, Unigraphics NX (preferred) or Solid Works, Excel, and Word.
- Experience with close tolerance tools and measuring devices. Mechanical aptitude.
- Communication of complex technical ideas and project status in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Understands tool and part prints, measuring parts, and performing experiments and studies.
- Organizes, prioritizes, and accomplishes tasks, makes decisions and solves problems independently.
- Willingness to travel. Domestic and/or international travel limited to short duration and special situations.
- Stamping tool maintenance and troubleshooting experience, preferably in a union shop.
- Experience at forming copper and brass terminals or similar components in progressive stamping dies.
- Resourcefully adaptive to rapidly changing environment.
- Ability to work effectively with people at all levels in an organization.
- Strong presence, poise and persuasiveness to establish a high level of credibility quickly.
- Willingness to temporarily flex hours as needed or work extra hours to manage high priority issues.
