The HR Generalist is an experienced professional who provides support for a single manufacturing mill site. The HR Generalist is a solutions-driven leader focused on carrying out responsibilities in all HR functional areas and is an employee advocate who models our values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion and safety. This position reports to the site HR Manager / Business Partner and is primary a day shift role; however, the successful candidate must be willing to support HR situations as needed in a 24/7 operation. This is also a large manufacturing site made up of multiple out buildings. The HR Generalist is actively engaged and a visible leader in all areas of the mill. This position supports the Moncure, NC mill and is an onsite position.
DESCRIPTION OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Administers various aspects of the organization’s compensation and benefit, recruitment, employee development, organization development, and employee relations programs
- Ensures consistent management application of Company and mill specific policies
- Maintain accurate employee records regarding pay rates, shift details, promotions, transfers, leaves of absence, etc.
- Manages the employee recruitment and selection process for both hourly and salary positions
- Partners with the Training Coordinator to administer the hourly work system (level advancement)
- Oversees the coordination of the new hire onboarding process
- Provides HR support for the maintenance apprenticeship program
- Keeps up-to-date with the employee relations climate in the organization and supports regulatory changes in employment laws, so that the organization’s employee policies remain current and relevant.
- Administers day-to-day performance management activities (employee coaching, career development, corrective action)
- Coordinates community involvement initiatives and mill employee events
- Liaison for various government agencies for employment, funding and community relations.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- High school diploma or GED required; associate or bachelors degree preferred
- Minimum of 3 years of human resources experience required, manufacturing environment strongly preferred; an associate or bachelors degree in HR, or the PHR/SPHR certification, may be considered in combination with HR experience
- A strong understanding of applicable federal and state employment laws
- Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office applications; SAP experience is a plus
- Experience working in an HRIS system; experience with SuccessFactors is highly beneficial
- Must be comfortable engaging with all levels of the organization and possess skilled experience in conflict resolution and problem-solving
- Must be comfortable in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing business needs
- Experience delivering training presentations and speaking in front of a group
- Experience with ‘team based’ approaches to managing a business
- Proven ability to follow through on projects and act as a change agent for the company
- Must possess a strong attention to detail and juggle multiple tasks simultaneously
