What are the responsibilities and job description for the Head Start Education Coordinator (1768) FT position at Arc GLOW?
Summary: Responsible for planning, directing, and monitoring the Head Start education program services in accordance with Head Start Performance Standards, state, county and federal regulations. Supervises teachers and provides guidance and support to the classroom staff while monitoring classroom environments.
Essential Functions:
- Plans, administers and implements the delivery of education services for program children in compliance with Head Start, local, regional and federal guidelines.
- Coordinates ongoing assessments and child outcome reporting.
- General supervision and evaluation of education staff.
- Assist in recruiting, interviewing, hiring, orienting, and discharge of staff.
- Completing employee evaluations to include probationary evaluations and annual evaluations.
- Plan and facilitate regularly scheduled department meetings.
- Facilitate effective interpersonal communication between professions.
- Manage employee conflicts in conjunction with other department coordinators and the program director.
- Provide employee counseling and disciplinary action in consultation with the program director.
- Maintain adherence to Head Start Performance Standards, and other regulation as applicable.
- Monitor all teaching staff.
- Work with appropriate community professionals and Head Start staff to identify children.
- Coordinate development and implementation of IEP’s and service delivery to children who qualify for additional support.
- Assures that developmentally appropriate curriculum is utilized in all classrooms
- Evaluate Education services and assure quality care and documentation.
- Review teachers’ reports, IEP recommendations, progress notes, and written programs.
- Observe classrooms sessions and provide feedback to the individual teachers.
- Help to develop/maintain formats, procedures, systems to increase/maintain efficiency of daily operations and record keeping within the requirements of regulatory agencies (i.e. Head Start, OCFS, NYS DOH, NYS SED).
- Encourage the professional development and self-development of education staff.
- Supports training of teaching staff including, new staff orientation, ongoing training and guidance, and development of individual training plan for teaching staff.
- Participates in annual program self-assessment.
- Promotes and supports active parent involvement in the education program.
- Promotes Family Engagement by supporting program activities focused on building respectful and trusting relationships with children’s parents/guardians.
- Other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions:
- Working conditions are typical for a child care setting. Exposure to bodily fluids, potentially infectious material, and communicable diseases.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Education- baccalaureate or advanced degree in early childhood education or a baccalaureate or advanced degree and equivalent coursework in early childhood education with early education teaching experience
- Preferably one year of on-the-job experience serving families from various economic and educational backgrounds.
