Position Overview And Purpose
The Yard Driver operates commercial vehicles, including powered tractor-trailer combinations, in Arcadia yards in a safe and efficient manner to move single and/or double trailers (empty and/or loaded, from 28’ up to 53’). Tasks include performing pre- and post-trip inspections on trucks and equipment, securing loads in between transporting from shipping and loading docks and within the Arcadia yard. The Yard Driver must be able to meet deadlines and adhere to schedules and be customer service-oriented when interacting with internal customers to effectively communicate and exchange information.

The Yard Driver must be able to meet deadlines and adhere to schedules and be customer service-oriented when interacting with internal customers to effectively communicate and exchange information.
Essential Functions And Baisc Duties
- Operate tractor to reposition trailers at designated locations in a safe and efficient manner, which requires frequent pulling out and backing up tractor and single/double trailers.
- Perform and document pre- and post-trip inspection on tractors and trailers; report any deficiencies immediately and do not operate vehicle until corrected.
- Interact and communicate with operations management and both shipping and receiving departments to verify delivery, place or position trailers in designated locations, and complete transaction documentation.
- Read, interpret, and follow work orders, safety instructions and manuals.
- Apply knowledge of product and temperature sensitive (cold chain) protocols when transporting, re-loading and securing product for transport.
- Connect, disconnect, and secure trailer chocks and blocks before and after transport. Apply trailer security seals, pin locks and/or glad hand locks.
- Conduct frequent trailer yard checks and record keeping.
- Perform trailer refrigeration start, temperature adjustment and off procedures.
- Apply knowledge of commercial driving regulations and skill when safely maneuvering vehicle in all situations.
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance, wearing appropriate attire and PPE.
- Maintain overall truck yard order including maintenance and cleanliness when transporting trailers and equipment.
- Follow and maintaining compliance with GWP’s and all other food safety and quality requirements.
- May assist in minor repairs to tractor or trailer.
- Follow practices and procedures through a robust Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point System (HACCP)
- Other duties may be assigned to fulfill Arcadia’s objectives.
- High school graduate or general education degree (GED) from an accredited institution.
- MVR required; good driving record a must. CDL preferred.
- Basic reading, legible writing and arithmetic skills required.
- Strong sense of urgency and ability to meet deadlines.
- High level of attention to detail.
- Solid verbal and written communication skills.
- Comfortable working independently or as a team.
- Ability to work a flexible work schedule and shifts, including weekends if needed.
