Purpose
The Registered Nurse is a charge nurse who is responsible for the overall nursing care on their assigned shift. All job functions are performed with customer service and hospitality as the overall goal, to both our residents and co-workers alike. This position is a Part Time B (20-29 hrs. per week) 12 hr. shifts from 6am to 6:30pm on Saturdays & 6pm to 6:30am on Mondays.
Essential Functions
- Supervises direct care of residents and nursing personnel on their assigned shift.
- Conducts treatments, including, but not limited to: dressings, catheterization, suctioning, oxygen, etc.
- Provides direct care when needed.
- Oversees and manages the admission of new residents. Admissions process includes, but not limited to: welcoming residents to their rooms, instructing CNAs on resident needs, communicating the admission to staff/department personnel, verifying and carrying out orders with pharmacy, communicate effectively with family/resident on expectations of stay, and assessing resident’s overall status and determining changing needs.
- Administers medications.
- Ensures all medications and treatments are performed and charged appropriately by the LPN or designated official.
- Assures effective communication with other shifts and department personnel as it relates to resident care.
- Guarantees appropriate nursing care is provided, according to established standards and policies.
- Evaluates resident care and treatment by making rounds at least twice per shift to ensure proper care is rendered in a safe and clean environment.
- Apprises staff, physicians, resident/resident representative, and families of changes in resident’s condition.
- Verifies accuracy and completeness of medical records.
- Endorses shift reports.
- Maintains acceptable standards of personal hygiene and complies with department dress code.
- Reports all suspicions or allegations of resident abuse outlined in the STOP, REMOVE, REPORT policy and procedures.
- Maintains the confidentiality of resident care information outlined under the HIPAA regulations.
- Maintains safe and sanitary work stations and equipment.
- Coordinates physician visits with residents.
- Accompanies physicians when making rounds, notes all orders, has physician sign and document on resident charts
- .Assists with the orientation and evaluation of nursing personnel.
- Assists in the development and implementation of new policies and procedures.
- Assists in infection control, safety, and pharmacy rounds and audits.
- Participates in family and resident counseling, as necessary.
- Confirms proper functioning of equipment and adequate supplies.
- Coordinates nursing activities with other departments when necessary.
- Encourages resident independence, attendance at activities, restorative programs, and rehabilitation.
- Maintains the self-respect, personal dignity, and physical safety of each resident.
- Attends in-service training, floor orientation, staff meetings, and education sessions, as required. Attends and collaborates in resident care plans and Quality Assurance committee meetings.
- Assigns tasks and duties to staff in the event of an emergency or natural disaster.
- Functions as an LPN or CNA, when needed
- Other duties as assigned by the Arcadia Family of Companies.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Supervises employees in the Health Care Center. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; performance management; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.

Education and/or Experience
Bachelor's degree (B.S.) from four-year college or university and a minimum of 2-3 years of experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Certifications, Licenses, and Registrations
Current State of Hawaii R.N. license and First Aid/CPR certification.
