Responsibilities
The Data Engineer will support the Sponsor’s organization with leveraging best practices to implement means to efficiently create, organize, process, store, and utilize data collected from multiple sources. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Provide technical expertise in the use of various data applications, tools, and services
- Evaluate and recommend available data management tools, services, and products to support validated user and/or system requirements
- Refining (and potential re-defining) existing ETL (extract, transform, load) processes
- Define file organizations, indexing methods, and security procedures for specific user applications
- Plan and coordinate security measures-data integrity, backup systems, and database security
Qualifications
- Must possess and be able to maintain a TS/SCI clearance with polygraph
- A degree (or equivalent experience) in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Business, or a scientific or technical discipline
- BS 12-15, MS 10-13, PhD 8-10
- Analytical and conceptual skills; ability to create original concepts/theories for various projects
- Technology Design — Adapting equipment and technology to serve user needs
- Ability to convert customer or product requirements logically and systematically into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical needs, schedules, and cost constraints
- Ability to analyze and study complex system requirements, for example:
- Perform functional analysis, timeline analysis, cost estimation, trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications
- Apply the concept of operations set of disciplines for the planning, analysis, design, and construction of information systems across a major sector of the organization
- Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology
- Experience with activity and data modeling, and ETL development (data processing automation) transaction flow analysis, internal control and risk analysis and modern business methods and performance measurement techniques
- Experience with Java, Python
- Experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) and AWS tool suite that optimizes the managing of data flow
- Able to implement solutions and critical thinking using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems
- Experience with successful full life-cycle software development projects
- Demonstrated knowledge in enterprise data strategy, data governance practices, data stewardship principles, data architecture principles, data standards, and metadata management best practices
