Director of Athletics and Campus Operations
Description: S/he has primary responsibility for the School's athletic programs and campus operations, including maintenance and transportation. S/he will administer all athletic programs and hire/direct all members of the athletic coaching staff. S/he will work collaboratively with the Director of Maintenance and third-party contractors. S/he will oversee the work of the Director of Transportation ensuring students' safe and efficient transportation to and from school, extracurricular events, the MCES shuttle, and management of transportation assets. The Director of Athletics and Campus Operations will report to the Principal on all athletic matters and the President on all campus operation matters. S/he will serve as a member of the School's Administrative Team. Candidate must be supportive of the School’s mission and teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.
Primary Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Directs the School's athletic program in a manner that promotes the virtues the School seeks to instill in its students
- Views the athletic court or field as an extension of the classroom and works with his/her coaches to create an environment in every program where values consistent with the School's mission and the Catholic Church's purpose of evangelization are brought to life
- Develops and administers the annual athletic budget
- Establishes all athletic schedules for games, officials, facility use, and student transportation
- Oversees the implementation of the total athletic program through the mentoring and supervising of all coaches in accordance with the Michigan High School Athletic Association policies
- Supervises all individuals attending or involved in athletic activities in conjunction with the Principal and Dean of Students
- Communicates all state, league, and school rules/ regulations to athletic parties
- Monitors the storage, care, maintenance, repair, and purchase of all athletic equipment and uniforms
- Approves the criteria used for athletic awards with the cooperation of the coaches and ensures that student-athletes and coaches are recognized for their participation and accomplishments
- Works with the Director of Marketing and Communication to ensure that SMCC Athletics and athletic-related activities are shared across school marketing and social media channels, with local and regional media outlets, and alumni and supporters of the School
- Collaborates with the President and the Director of Maintenance to ensure a continually clean, safe, functional, and attractive learning, working, and campus environment
- Assists in contract negotiation, maintenance supervision and upkeep, and future development of all offsite athletic facilities
- Oversees the work of the Director of Transportation to provide safe and efficient options for day school transport, the MCES shuttle, all extracurricular needs, and any rental of SMCC transportation assets
- Serves as a member of the Administrative Team
- Assumes other duties as assigned by the Principal or President
Qualities and traits sought:
- A person of high moral character and integrity committed to the SMCC and Catholic Church's vision of spiritual, intellectual, and moral formation
- Prior experience with youth and youth coaching and mentoring
- Proven success in managing people with focus on instilling institutional goals and values in others
- Outstanding communication skills applicable with a variety of constituent groups
- Creative problem solver who can bring a balanced approach to conflict mediation
- Highly organized person comfortable managing multiple overlapping tasks simultaneously
- Committed to building positive and collaborative relationships with staff and parents
- Proven ability to maintain confidentiality
- Prior experience in an educational setting preferred
- Bachelor's degree required. Degree in Education/Administration or related field preferred. Coaching experience strongly preferred
- Full time, 12-month position starting no later than August 1, 2022
