Our organization seeks a motivated and skilled FHIR (Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources) Interoperability Expert Consultant. The Interoperability Expert plays a strategic role in healthcare IT who specializes in the design, development, and implementation of FHIR-based solutions.
As the driving force behind our HL7/FHIR implementation strategies, you will liaise between business units and technical teams, ensuring that the solutions align with our customer’s business goals while participating in FHIR community events, including conferences, meetings, boot camps, forums, and other interaction points. Together with the Development Team, enhance and create content tutorials, developer manuals, and client libraries for current and future project developers.
This is a fully remote, full-time position.

Responsibilities:
- Extensive experience with HL7 FHIR standards, including creating and publishing custom HL7 FHIR Implementation Guides (IG) and profiles.
- In-depth understanding and hands-on experience with USCDI standards and US Core IG, with practical applications; working knowledge of USCDI and QI Core IG is a plus.
- Proven experience in setting up, evaluating, and benchmarking HL7 FHIR servers for optimal performance, including the use of synthetic data for testing.
- Skilled in HL7 FHIR Façade architecture, managing authorization servers and API Gateway technologies with strong proficiency in integration architecture focusing on HL7 FHIR API interoperability, including API management, service mesh and developer portals.
- Adept at mapping FHIR data to non-FHIR proprietary formats and vice versa with strong understanding of terminology services.
- Experience documenting work in Confluence, writing user stories and tracing progress in Jira.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless data exchange, while acting as a bridge between technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Communicate complex FHIR solutions effectively to both business and IT stakeholders ensuring consensus and alignment.
- Comfortable working within CMS guidelines and frameworks with strong preference for candidates experienced in quality measurement, reporting and healthcare data exchange.
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field.
- 5-10 years of healthcare IT experience with expertise in healthcare interoperability standards (HL7 FHIR, CDS Hooks, SMART on FHIR and APIs)
- Healthcare interoperability, HL7, FHIR, CDS Hooks, SMART on FHIR, & APIs.
- HL7 Expertise: Proficiency in HL7 standards, particularly HL7 v2, and v3, is the core skill for this role.
- Proficient in integration architecture, particularly HL7 FHIR API interoperability
- Experience utilizing Smart on FHIR standards to build healthcare applications
- Experience developing artifacts, such as resources and profile definitions, in accordance with FHIR's development guidelines, policies, and procedures
- Experience with API technologies: API gateways, API management, Service Mesh & Developer Portals
- Knowledge of FHIR standards, emerging system integration technologies, analysis, design, programming, training, and implementation planning.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to demonstrate excellent organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize workload, meet deadlines, and multitask while maintaining attention to detail; and the ability to demonstrate excellent organizational skills.
- HL7 certification is preferred.
- Experience in government consulting prefer.
- Experience in management consulting is preferred, and a client-facing role is a plus.
- A willingness to continually learn and adapt to the evolving technology landscape.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
