What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant General Counsel position at Arconic?
Arconic is currently in search of Assistant General Counsel to join our Legal Department in Pittsburgh, PA .
Under the oversight of our Chief Legal Officer, the Assistant General Counsel will set the legal commercial strategy for the company, manage a team of U.S.-based commercial lawyers, and provide support for a wide array of key company initiatives. This position requires a high degree of autonomy and creativity in dealing with complex legal and strategic matters, excellent people management, a proactive, self-motivated and results-oriented mindset, combined with strong collaboration and communications skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Effectively manage and address sophisticated commercial work from beginning to end, directly and through supervision of a team of commercial lawyers
- Providing direction and counsel to clients at all levels within the Company, including C suite on critical business and strategic issues
- Counseling and mitigating risk in a wide variety of areas routinely encountered by businesses on both a domestic and international basis and ranging in complexity, including antitrust, intellectual property, dispute resolution and litigation, labor and employment, trade compliance, anticorruption, and quality and product issues
- Leading complex corporate transactions and special projects
- Driving programmatic improvements with a focus on efficiency and risk mitigation
- Serving as a member of the Legal Department Lead Team
- Supervising and developing members of the Legal Department
- Directly supporting the work of the Chief Legal Officer

Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
- Law degree (Juris Doctor) from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association (ABA) and is currently a member in good standing of a State or Territory of the United States or the District of Columbia.
- 10 years’ experience as a practicing lawyer at a law firm or a corporate legal department .
- Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
- This position requires access to controlled technology, as defined in the Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. §730, et seq.) and/or the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). Qualified IT candidate must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the relevant government agency. Business demands may require employer to proceed with candidates who are immediately eligible to access controlled technology.
Preferred Qualifications
- 15 years of relevant experience as a practicing lawyer at a law firm or corporate legal department, with at least 5 years in a corporate in-house role and experience managing a team of at least 4 lawyers and non-lawyer professionals.
- Experience in M&A, international trade and compliance helpful but not required.
