Ardurra is seeking a Construction Observation Inspector to join our staff in Flagstaff, AZ .
Primary Function
In this role, the Construction Inspector will observe and inspect various construction sites.
Primary Duties
Construction observation and inspection duties include, but are not limited to :
- Visit construction sites to monitor activities
- Observing compliance to all safety protocols
- Arranging and reviewing material testing results
- Determining and documenting quantity of work completed and materials used
- Assist in preparing pay estimates and change orders for construction contracts
- Track project budgets and contract amendments
- Participate in project meetings to plan and review project progress
- Investigating complaints
- Confer with contractors and the general public to resolve problems with inspections
- Interpret surveying documents; reading plans, maps or graphic instructions
- Communicate projects status and issues to management in a timely manner
Ensures compliance with jurisdiction specifications and details
- Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction
- Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG) standard specifications and details for public works construction, including, but not limited to : earthwork;
- sanitary sewers and water lines; irrigation pipes; storm drains; streetlights; electric, telephone, and dry utility trenches;
paving and concrete flatwork; and bridges and structures, etc
- May coordinate-survey requests and staking
- Monitor trenching for alignment and grade, shoring, and manhole locations and compaction
- Check pipes, valves, and fire hydrants for proper location, type, and operations
- Monitor conflicts with other utilities
Required to use appropriate safety equipment and follow approved safety procedures in performing work assignments.
Essential Functions :
- Inspect the full range of public works construction projects, which includes streets, alleys, water and sewer lines, irrigation facilities, storm drains, and permit construction in the public right-of-way, for compliance with standard details, specifications, and approved plans
- Inspects materials, grades, and other work for compliance with standard and special specifications, details, plans, and standard construction practices
- Complete daily and monthly progress reports and assists in preparing monthly and final pay estimates
- Compute monthly estimates of work completed and recommends payment for contractors
- Monitor the Quality Assurance Plan and calls for testing as required;
- Review progress of projects being inspected for the City by others and assists them in coordinating work
- Train other construction inspectors as needed
- Inspect traffic control barricade set-ups including street, sidewalk or alley restrictions in accordance with City of Phoenix Traffic Barricade Manual including any ADA requirements
- May coordinate with utilities, other departments, contractors, and sub-contractors
- Review quantities based on plans and specifications prior to construction
- Work with survey personnel in preparing record drawings;
- Observe and ensures that materials are in accordance with and used in accordance with standard details specifications, approved plans and normal construction practices
- Records all field changes for "as-built" drawings on field plan set or assures the contractor and / or architect / engineer are recording changes
- Handle property owners complaints and inquiries as to construction activities
- Call for survey support as required by construction progress
- Maintain regular and reliable attendance
- Inspect trench backfill, sub-grade and aggregate base course for grade, compaction, moisture, and preparation for paving
- Attend and participates in preconstruction meetings with department staff, engineers, contractors, developers and other organizations
- Ability to use Microsoft Office Programs, Word, Excel, Outlook
- Represents Ardurra in the construction inspection role in a manner that demonstrates respect for others, integrity, and a high degree of professionalism
- Perform related duties as assigned
Education and Experience Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalency
- Four (4) years’ experience in public works construction inspection work or related field
- Valid Arizona Driver’s License with acceptable driving record
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work
- Must be able to obtain the America Concrete Inspection (ACI) Field Testing and Arizona Technical Testing Institute (ATTI) Field Technician Certifications within 6 months of employment.
