Position Summary:
Arkansas State University is seeking a dynamic and motivated individual for the position of Director of Outreach for the Women’s Leadership Center (WLC). The successful candidate will be able to navigate a complex organizational environment demanding high energy, extraordinary organizational skills, discretion, patience, enthusiasm, time management, and good humor. This position will report dually to the Vice Chancellor of University Advancement and the Director of the Delta Center for Economic Development. The director will be a key contributor in helping the Women’s Leadership Center expand its mentoring programs across campus as well as outreach beyond campus through the newly-created Arkansas Delta Women’s Leadership Academy
Overview:
This position will serve two key functions: (1) outreach for the Women’s Leadership Center (WLC) and (2) administration of the Arkansas Delta Women’s Leadership Academy
The WLC is committed to cultivating confident and capable young girls and women devoted to setting and achieving high goals on their paths to college and careers. In the five years since its inception, the Women’s Leadership Center has served as a beacon of light, mentoring a previously undeserved population- female college students majoring in business. In turn, the “Step Up, Reach Back, and Engage Out” program has provided several hundred juniors and seniors have received personal and group mentoring from alumni and friends of the university (Step Up) that has been hailed as “life changing.” In addition, these mentees have taken on semester long projects to mentor girls in the community, ranging from 6th grade through high school (Reach Back). They completed numerous fundraisers and community service projects, and learned to be leaders. The students received interview preparation through mock interviews, resume preparation workshops, and countless hours of networking and hearing from women in business about challenges and opportunities, and how to navigate them successfully. Currently there are 46 leadership interns participating in the program for 2022-2023. Engage Out refers to an effort to connect to other areas of campus, colleges, and expand the reach into regional chambers of commerce and community nonprofits
The Arkansas Delta Women’s Leadership Academy will be directed by the Delta Center for Economic Development and the Graduate School Dean at Arkansas State University. The purpose of the academy is to increase the number and visibility of female leaders in the Arkansas delta region by providing them with leadership training, tools, resources, and networks
Duties & Responsibilities:
The Program Director will be responsible for planning, executing and administering events that support the Women’s Leadership Center’s mission and objectives by cultivating confident and capable young females. As a new position, the Program Director will be charged with organizing campus lectures and bringing renowned speakers to campus, creating mentoring/shadowing opportunities for mentees in mentor’s workplaces, organizing mentoring clusters online and in person, hosting Summer Camps, helping organize and host the annual Women’s Leadership Conference, expanding community and regional outreach efforts, and creating other partnerships with existing events and programs on campus and in the mentoring network in the region. The Director will be responsible for communication and collaboration with the deans in the colleges that want to build mentoring into their disciplines. The individual must be willing and capable of coordinating with multiple units across campus to direct and assist in women’s leadership campus wide efforts. The Director will engage volunteers and Founder’s Circle members in fundraising efforts or service activities, perform special projects, administer all social media sites for the program(s), and other duties as assigned. The Director will be responsible for establishing and operating camps for mentees, junior high and high school girls
The Director will be responsible for managing the administrative operations of the Arkansas Delta Women’s Leadership Academy. Including, but not limited to, the program application process, payment of all program expenses, managing the program budget, and handling all program planning and logistics. This will include 6 sessions throughout the year at various locations throughout the Arkansas Delta
This individual must be a highly energetic professional with a track record of building relationships, possess strong communication skills, and a strategic planning background. The Director will be required to travel to Arkansas Delta Women’s Leadership Academy sessions, cultivate potential donors, keep current donors and stakeholders aware of the Women’s Leadership Center’s activities, and engage in regional and statewide women’s leadership initiatives. Metrics for measuring success will depend upon the number of individuals served, partnerships created, and service hours performed by students
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Knowledge of strategic planning
Knowledge of social media strategies
Knowledge of gift planning and procedures
Knowledge of higher education programs, goals and objectives
Ability to plan events including negotiations with hotels, venues, and caterers
Ability to relate women’s leadership programs to university goals and objectives
Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with donors, volunteers, campus administrators, Deans, etc.
Willingness to ask donors/alumni for financial support

Minimum Qualifications:
An earned Bachelor’s Degree or higher
One year or more (1 ) of related experience
