Position Overview
Under the direction of the safety director, the safety coordinator carries out the company’s environmental health and safety programs, leads in promoting the company’s safety culture, and is responsible for identifying safety issues and implementing controls at the plant and ensuring compliance with Federal, State, Local, and executive management safety requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Detailed knowledge of relevant safety standards and regulations such as OSHA, EPA, and ANSI.
- Oversees field examinations and reports hazardous locations and materials.
- Maintains management information systems that identify the location of hazardous sites, chemical inventories, and complaint investigations.
- Records, tracks, and investigates all environmental, health, and safety incidents (including near miss, accidents and injuries, property damage, and general liability), performs root cause analysis, and develops corrective and preventative measures.
- Develops and recommends solutions to eliminate pollution and environmental hazards.
- Designs, implements, and conducts effective ongoing environmental health and safety training programs for employees; ensures all workers receive the necessary training for the job tasks they are performing.
- Collects and analyze test samples of food, soil, water, and air.
- Performs research and reports findings on current environmental conditions.
- Prepares clear and detailed written reports about field inspections.
- Implements spill prevention programs and hazardous waste regulations.
- Carries out site assessments to determine the environmental impact of commercial activity.
- Participates and assists in plant inspections conducted by outside agencies, such as OSHA and FDEP.
- Attends staff meetings and in-service training.
- Occasional travel to other facilities (3-4 days per quarter).
- Performs other related duties that may be assigned by the safety director.
Qualifications
Physical Demands
- Must be able to frequently tolerate repetitive movement including sitting, standing, balancing, climbing, walking, twisting, turning, bending, squatting, kneeling, crouching, and using hands and arms to reach overhead, push, pull, and move objects.
- Hand-eye coordination, manual dexterity, and fine motor skills to handle and manipulate objects and materials.
- Exposure to working outside in extreme weather conditions; cold in the winter and extreme heat in the summer.
- Tolerance to moderate noise levels.
- Ability to talk, hear, read, and understand verbal and written communications, interpret and relay safety standards, and carry out job tasks safely around heavy rolling equipment.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent, and three (3) years of relevant work experience in environmental health and safety in supply chain manufacturing; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to communicate with members at all levels of the organization.
- Strong organizational and time management skills and close attention to detail.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to details.
- Ability to work independently and remain self-motivated with minimal direct supervision.
Salary : $60,000
