JOB SUMMARY

The Strain Development Scientist will be accountable for defining and developing cell line for plasmid DNA manufacturing for Arranta Bio’s RNA manufacturing platform. You will be an integral part of the Nucleic Acid Technology Group and will play a critical role in establishing a robust, reliable and scalable manufacturing platform for Arranta Bio with accountability on delivering wide range of solutions from RNA therapeutics, vaccines and novel RNA chemistries. The ideal candidate will be a fast-paced detail oriented cross functional coach with technical expertise in strain development.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Design, develop, screen and bank stable cell lines for producing plasmid DNA using E. coli.

  • Develop appropriate quality control assays to ensure stability of the cell line and quality of the plasmid DNA in research cell banks.

  • Collaborate to develop, design, test and build experimental workflows in order to operationalize new methods of DNA production.

  • Analyze experimental data and generate data driven conclusions for strain design, development and optimization.

  • Design and execute fermentation studies to improve process improvements in shake flasks.

  • Interface with multi-disciplinary team (Analytical Development, Process Science, Manufacturing, Process Engineering & Quality) to deliver on-time deliverables for all projects.

  • Represent Arranta in current and prospective client interactions as a subject matter expert and serve as technical lead on client programs.

  • Authors, executes and leads development plans, development reports and investigations including contributions to regulatory submissions.

  • Provides coaching, training and oversight of other scientific and laboratory staff.

  • Utilize DoE and QbD principles for efficient development of processes.

  • Adheres to good laboratory practices and standard operating procedures.

  • Must demonstrate proficient skills in organization, attention-to-detail, interpersonal communication, judgement, planning and prioritization.

  • Establish written procedures for the clear and accurate documentation of equipment operation, process instructions and process data.

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment with a continuous improvement mindset.


Required Experience:
  • M.S degree in degree in Microbiology, Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biological Engineering, Biotechnology or Chemical Engineering with 3 years of relevant work experience.
  • Ph.D. Degree in Microbiology, Biology, Biochemistry, Biological Engineering, or Chemical Engineering.
  • Level contingent on experience.
  • Demonstrated academic/industry experience in plasmid assembly and manipulation, sequencing, DNA purification, and cell transformation.
  • Experience with bacterial hosts other than E. coli is a plus.
  • Familiarity with analytical techniques in nucleic acid and protein detection and quantification (such as AGE, Bioanalyzer, RNA Dot-Blot, UV-Vis spectroscopy and Fragment Analyzer) is a plus.
  • Excellent oral and scientific writing communications skills is required.
  • Ability to independently perform experiments, analyze complex data and report data with simplicity is critical for success.
  • Proficiency with DoE using statistical software (ex - JMP) is required.
  • Familiarity and practical understanding of how to correctly operate basic laboratory equipment: including microbial culturing, aseptic techniques, bioreactors, pH/conductivity meters, lab scales, centrifuges, shakers, sterile hoods, pipettes, etc is preferred.
  • Must have strong mathematical, computational, problem solving, planning and organizational skills.
  • Must be flexible, approachable, highly motivated and good interpersonal skills.
