What are the responsibilities and job description for the Prior Authorization Specialist position at Arthritis Associates?

Our Prior Authorization Specialists are responsible for all aspects of the prior authorization process. This includes collecting all the necessary documentation, contacting the patient for additional information, and completion of the required prior authorization in order to proceed with treatment. This position is also responsible for indexing paper records into the patient charts, and is a fully in-person position.

Some of the duties are listed below:

  • Contact insurance carriers to verify patient’s insurance eligibility, benefits and requirements.
  • Request, track, and obtain pre-authorization from insurance carriers within time allotted for medical and services prior to services being performed.
  • Demonstrate and apply knowledge of medical terminology and high proficiency of general medical office procedures while following HIPAA regulations.
  • Communicate any insurance changes or trends among team.
  • Maintain a level of productivity suitable for the department.
  • Clearly document all communications and contacts with providers and personnel in standardized documentation requirements, including proper format.
  • Schedule and maintain inventory.
  • Scan paper records into EMR system and attach them accurately to the appropriate patient.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Other requirements:

  • 2 years clinical experience (preferred)
  • 2 years prior authorization or similar experience(preferred)
  • High school education or equivalent (required)

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $17.00 - $21.00 per hour
