The Position:
The Controller is a senior management role that oversees the financial operations including financial reporting, compliance with GAAP and forecasting.
As a Controller, a typical day might look like:
- Assists in formulating and administering approved general accounting practices and policies for the organization as well as analyzes and interprets data and develops reports to executive management reflecting internal economic conditions and trends; implements a system of controls over accounting transactions to minimize risk.
- Recommends benchmarks that will be used to measure the company's performance.
- Coordinates the establishment of major schedules, task assignments and allocation of staff and equipment to ensure compliance with specified objectives, policies and deadlines through accountable management personnel.
- Plans and conducts meetings, education and other interactions with staff to facilitate compliance with established practices, to implement new policies and to keep employees aware of changes and current standards.
- Oversees and contributes to the successful annual and monthly close process; assists in the oversight of accounts receivable, oversight of accounts payable, payroll and monthly reporting.
- Preparation of forecasts, annual preparation of a budget, assisting with the preparation of annual tax returns and treasury administration.
- Creates and implements policies and procedures to identify, resolve and document accounting issues in addition to creating procedures to make the close and reporting processes more efficient and accurate.
- Assists in the oversight of Federal and State level cost report work papers and assist with audits.
- Prepares and reconciles monthly and annual audits as well as the review and recording of journal entries required to reflect the monthly activity.
- Prepares work papers supporting the monthly close process and month end balances as well as the monthly financial statements and related footnotes along with ensuring compliance with all applicable laws, rules, and regulations.
- Other duties as assigned.
This job might be for you if you have:
- Bachelors’ Degree in finance, accounting, business or closely related discipline require.
- A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in the healthcare accounting and finance preferred.
- A minimum of three (3) years’ specific leadership experience in the healthcare accounting and finance required.
- Demonstrated experience with revenue cycle management, managed care contracting, AP/AR, budgeting, audits & payroll.
