The Position:
The Phlebotomist collects and labels blood and other required specimens requiring testing in the clinic and clinical laboratory. They may also assist with order entry of tests, assist Medical Assistants in collection, and ensure specimens are timely routed to the appropriate areas of testing.
As a Phlebotomist, a typical day might look like:
- Consulting with physicians and patients regarding patient care as it relates to phlebotomy service issues.
- Obtain quality blood or other required specimens using a variety of phlebotomy methods.
- Ensure patient safety and protection of patient privacy rights by observing HIPAA regulations.
- Following laboratory procedures for collecting specimens in the appropriate container.
- Updating charts and track paperwork to completion.
- Cleaning and preparing examination rooms, equipment, and tools per protocol.
- Provide education to patients for proper collection techniques.
This job might be for you if:
- You have a high school degree or equivalent.
- You have experience working in a medical/clinical setting.
- You have solid assessment, clinical and documentation skills.
- You connect well with others and are comfortable talking to people.
- You hare a Certified Phlebotomy Technician
- You are familiar with NextGen EMT System or another EMR
- You have a knowledge of medical terminology
