JOB DESCRIPTION
Development Director

Ascencia is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) agency, dedicated to moving families and individuals out of homelessness.
We serve Glendale, Northeast Los Angeles, Burbank, West Hollywood, and East Hollywood. This position is located in our Glendale office at 1851 Tyburn Street.

POSITION TYPE: Full Time – Exempt

DESCRIPTION: The Development Director will serve as the chief strategist for all of Ascencia’s fund development. The person will lead the development team responsible for implementing a comprehensive development plan including individual giving, grantsmanship, marketing, and special events.

REPORTS TO: Executive Director

Pay Rate: $75,000 - $80,000

Duties and Responsibilities:

Strategic Development Planning and Evaluation

 Lead design and implementation of annual development plan, including concrete goals, development operations and budget

 Collaborate with colleagues to create, update, and implement efficient and effective development-related goals and processes—both within the development team and across teams

 Provide analysis of past fundraising and current trends in the field to inform goal setting
 Develop and maintain dashboards to track progress and benchmarks
 Manage the development team effectively to achieve goals
 Manage the Americorp Vista Program

_ Major Donor and Individual Fundraising _

 Work closely with development team to project manage annual fund activities, including major donor program, direct mail, online fundraising campaigns and donor portfolio management

 Lead the staff, Board, and Major Donor Committee’s donor portfolio strategy, provide training in the cultivation, stewardship and solicitation of donors, and provide stewardship to loyal donors in own portfolio

 Proactively produce reports and analyses of donor data and campaigns to help inform strategies

Foundation and Corporate Fundraising

 Cultivate and steward relationships with representatives from government, corporations, and foundations

 Identify cultivation and fundraising opportunities for institutional donors

 Partner with Board and staff in developing successful fundraising events
 Manage Board committee overseeing events to meet benchmarks and provide support, materials, and donor information

 Steward donors, sponsors, and vendor relationships

 Direct and execute marketing strategy, including content calendar, direct marketing, events, social media strategy, website and other communications * *

_ Data Management _

 Build, maintain and ensure the integrity and functionality of the donor database (eTapestry)
 Work with finance to aid in monthly reconciliation including pledge receivables and gift coding
 Ensure timely and accurate gift processing and acknowledgments

Required Education and Experience:

 Bachelor’s Degree with minimum five years of development experience, or minimum 10 years equivalent development experience

 Proven ability to act as project manager from concept to completion
 Proven track record with annual giving campaigns related to major gifts, grantsmanship, marketing, and special events required

 Supervisory skills and ability to lead and motivate a team
 Ability to remain informed on emerging technology and effective marketing strategies

 Ability to take initiative, set priorities and complete tasks
 Exceptional computer skills, including facility with database applications to manage donor information, and prudent use of spreadsheets

 Superior organizational skills and attention to detail are expected
 Excellent oral and written communication skills with a demonstrated ability to relate to and communicate with diverse communities

 Strong interpersonal skills and ability to create positive, long-term working relationships
 Ability to achieve high performance goals and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
 Demonstrated commitment to team work and customer service, confidentiality, reliability, tact and flexibility

 Must be insurable and provide own transportation for work-related travel as necessary.
 Must possess a valid driver license;
 Employees must carry active and adequate auto insurance corresponding to regulatory requirements if driving any vehicle not owned or leased by Ascencia.
