What You Will Do

As an APRN or PA in Maternity Services with Ascension, your primary role will be managing induction/labor patients on the labor floor. You will ensure that inductions are started in a timely manner and managed appropriately. You will also manage labor patients and support our physician residents as well as our private practice OBs. You will also see and evaluate patients in the OB Triage setting for things to include: labor, preterm labor, rupture of membranes or any complications of pregnancy over 20 weeks gestation, illness, injury etc. You will be in charge of triaging patients based on acuity and greatest need and will be supported by the on-call physician for the patients' private practice or the team of OB residents. You will not be responsible for OB Triage and labor floor management at the same time due to the busyness of the unit. You will also cover postpartum rounding on low risk patients, alongside the physician residents. You will be a part of teaching the Dell Seton interns how to adequately triage a patient, quickly and efficiently as one of their first year resident education goals. You will also assist in teaching interns how to deliver laboring patients. 
 

Position Highlights:

  • Main location: Ascension Seton Medical Center Austin, OB Triage and Labor and Delivery
  • Postpartum rounding, Induction patient management
  • >15 physicians supported, in a triage and floor setting
  • No call schedule
  • Schedule: Primarily night shift (7p-7a)

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Obtains patient history and performs assessment via observation, interview and examination. Orders, performs and interprets diagnostic studies. Performs preventative health assessments, screening, immunizations and patient care.
  • Provides direct treatment and management of health conditions via referral to other healthcare providers or community resources.
  • Counsels and educates patients and their families/caregivers concerning preventative health, treatment options and community resources.
  • Documents delivery of health care and nursing processes in accordance with specific specialty area standards and network nursing policy 

Job Requirements

APRN and PA Specs

 

Nurse Practitioner

 

Required Credential(s):

  • Nurse Practitioner credentialed from the Texas Board of Nursing.
  • Licensed Registered Nurse credentialed from the Texas Board of Nursing.

 

Preferred Credential(s):

  • BLS Provider credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Drug Enforcement Admin credentialed from the Drug Enforcement Administration.

 

Education:

  • Master's degree of Nursing required

 

Physician Assistant

 

Required Credential(s):

  • BLS Provider credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA) obtained within 3 Months (90days) of hire date or job transfer date.
  • Licensed Physician Assistant credentialed from the Texas Medical Board.
  • Certified Physician Assistant credentialed from the National Commission on Certification of PhysicianAssistants (NCCPA).

 

Preferred Credential(s):

  • Advanced Life Support credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA).

 

Education:

  • Graduate of accredited Physician Assistant program
  • Master's degree preferred

 

Work Experience for both APRN and PA:

  • Accepting New Grads and experienced
  • Required Labor and Delivery or Women's Health experience
  • Preferred prior work with OB residents
