What are the responsibilities and job description for the Designer 3 position at Ascent Aerospace?
The Designer 3 is responsible for the 3D design, layout and detailing of all tools assigned.
Essential Functions
Comprehend customer Statement of Work (SOW), general design standards and deliverables. Able to identify areas of potential design scope creep against SOW.
Create Highly Complex Static and Automated 3D Jig & Fixture Tool Designs and concepts in accordance to customers SOW and Technical Requirements using Catia V5.
Proven broad range experience in but not limited to Designing LM’s, MF’s, AJ’s, FAJ’s, ME’s, PME’s, OHME’s and etc.
Must be able to Check Tool Designs in accordance with customer and industry standards ensuring both intended quality, intended tool function and manufacturability.
Create Complex 2D Layout and Detail related and associative Tool Design drawings to meet customer specifications using CATIA V5.
Present Designs with support of Design Supervisors and or Engineering Manager to the customer through formal Design Reviews either in person and or remotely via Web Meetings.
Design all assigned tools to meet a “Designed for Manufacturability” intent along following common Engineering Strengths and Industry Safety Requirements.
Create and document formal notes and action items as result of design review meetings with customers.
Understand and work to all QMS procedures and work instructions
Complete 3D Models/Designs & 2D Drawings on-time and within established budgets and schedules.
Any additional duties assigned by management.
Required Skills, Education & Experience
Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful job performance will be considered. Typical qualifications would be:
High School diploma or GED required.
College degree in specific area of interest to include industrial engineering, mechanical engineering or similar related field is a plus.
8 years’ experience in a design and manufacturing environment, preferably in an aerospace tooling, but not required. Automotive Tooling experience is acceptable.
Experience demonstrating mechanical aptitude for problem solving abilities and resourcefulness.
8 years’ experience designing for and working within a Manufacturing environment.
CATIA V5, Computer Aided Design (CAD) experience using Part Design, Assembly Design, Generative Shape Design and or previous training is a plus.
Must be able to read an interoperate Mechanical drawings and blueprints.
Experience using Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance (GD&T)
This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22.C.F.R. § is required.

Work with safe manufacturing processes and understanding that eyewear is mandatory in the manufacturing area.
Knows that safety shoes are recommended in the manufacturing area.
