Are you passionate about delivering high-quality medical care to animals in need? If so, the position of Director of Veterinary Services at the ASPCA's Adoption Center may be right for you!
The Director of Veterinary Services (the Director) leads a team of 15 medical staff - including veterinarians, licensed veterinary technicians and adoptions veterinary assistants - in providing excellent patient care following shelter medicine best practices. The Director is responsible for staff management and day to day operations including patient evaluation, treatment and documentation, and ensures the animals' physical and behavioral needs are met on both the individual patient and population levels. The Director works closely with the Senior Director, Adoption Center & Kitten Nursery (the Senior Director) to establish, implement, and maintain proper medical, training, and communications protocols, and also with the Adoption Center Leadership Team to strategize ways to increase operational efficiency and impact.
The Adoption Center currently provides shelter and adoption for approximately 2,500 animals annually, including:
Animal victims of cruelty and neglect brought to us by the NYPD Animals brought to us through our community engagement team Underage kittens and other medically-compromised stray animals Animals surrendered by their owners and in need of adoption into new homes and Animals transferred in from shelter/rescue partners
The Director is a key player on a high-performing Adoption Center leadership team working collaboratively and effectively for the successful placement of cats and dogs in new, loving homes.
To succeed in this role, the Director must be an excellent and enthusiastic manager of both people and processes and a champion for great teamwork. Success also hinges on the ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to further the ASPCA's ultimate desired outcome that all animals live good lives.

Starting pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of factors, including but not limited to education, training, experience, location, business needs, internal equity, market demands or budgeted amount for the role. The target hiring rangeis for new hire offers only, and staff compensation may increase beyond the maximum hiring range based on performance over time. The maximum of the hiring range is reserved for candidates with the highest qualifications and relevant experience.The expected hiring range for this role is set forth below and may be modified in the future.
The target hiring range for this role is annually $110,000.00-$118,000.00 for a non DVM and $215,000.00-$225,000.00 for a DVM.
