Summary:

The ASPCA's Behavioral Rehabilitation Center (BRC) in Weaverville, NC, is the first and only facility dedicated to the rehabilitation and study of extremely fearful, undersocialized dogs, such as those confiscated from puppy mills and hoarding situations. The goal of the entire BRC team is to work together to improve these dogs' quality of life and prepare them for life in adoptive homes---an impossible outcome without intensive, structured behavioral interventions and integrative holistic care This key role at the BRC reports to the BRC's Senior Director of Operations and includes direct supervision and management of a team of 8 Care and Enrichment Technicians (CETs).

The Care and Enrichment Team handles intake procedures, daily care, low-stress husbandry, housing, and handling, as well as maintains a robust enrichment program. This position will be working side by side with direct reports as much as possible. In addition to direct supervision of this team, this position will support the Senior Director in managing all day-to-day operations involved in direct animal care, ensure proper training on SOPs is conducted and reinforced, and ensure staff are supported as they care for all dogs in the facility. This role is also responsible for staff scheduling and assignments, as well as operations supply inventory and tracking.

The role of the Care and Enrichment Team is to keep the dog kennels, all floors, and exercise areas clean and disinfected in the morning and throughout the day, prepare and provide daily enrichment items to keep the dogs content and engaged, assist with playgroups, participate in treatments with the Behavior Rehabilitation branch, monitor and report observations and interactions, and bring to the attention of the medical and behavior branch any concerns about illness or behavioral changes in the dogs. The Senior Manager also attends and participates in the outcome panel each week, providing input from their team to support the continual welfare monitoring of the dogs and the animal outcome determination.

One of the most critical functions of this role is to serve as part of a harmonious, united team of shelter operations, shelter medicine and animal behavior experts. The three branches collaborate to provide balanced, integrative, holistic care and ensuring all work supports the behavioral health of the dogs in treatment and communicate mutual respect for all areas of animal welfare expertise. At the BRC, we treat each other with respect and kindness. We have compassion for animals, our teammates and ourselves. Our individual well-being is as important as that of the animals in our care.
