What are the responsibilities and job description for the Hospice Medical Director position at Aspen Hospice Care?
Aspen Hospice Care is a locally-owned hospice agency headquartered in charming Downtown Lewisville. Since 2011, Aspen Hospice has been committed to providing quality end-of-life care to patients in our community. We are currently seeking part-time and per-diem Medical Directors to provide consultation in palliative care, symptom and supportive care to our growing patient census.
JOB DESCRIPTION
· Review patient eligibility for hospice services, including admission and re-certification
· Assume the role of Attending Physician for patients who do not have a designated physician to oversee their hospice care
· Prescribe medications and order diagnostics and treatments according to patients’ palliative care needs and in collaboration with the referring physician
· Attend bi-weekly Interdisciplinary Team (IDT) meetings (can be done remotely) to facilitate care planning and coordination of patient care
· Provide medical direction and education to the clinical staff and provide consultation for attending physicians
· Assist in review and development of the agency’s clinical policies and procedures
· Assure optimum patient care as a liaison in the medical community
· Perform home visits and Face to Face assessments if possible, but not required
QUALIFICATIONS
- Qualified candidates must be a Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathy with two years experience, licensed to practice medicine in the state of Texas
- Advanced and ongoing training in palliative medicine, diagnostics skills, symptom management and communication skills is preferred but not required
- Hospice and Palliative Medicine board certified or board eligible preferred but not required
- Reliable transportation, current state driver’s license and automobile insurance required
