We have an exciting opportunity for a Therapeutic Youth Counselor I in our Residential Program which provides a therapeutic campus and community home environment for youth where they can thrive and work through challenges to rewrite their life story!
YOUR OPPORTUNITY
The Therapeutic Youth Counselor I (TYC I) is responsible for providing care and supervision to youth in Aspiranet’s Short-term Residential Therapeutic Program and engages youth individually and in groups as part of daily routines and rituals that include meals, school, and activities, and supporting therapeutic and crisis interventions. The TYC I is the entry-level position in the TYC series and is a member of Aspiranet’s Therapeutic Community of Care which includes Behavioral Health and Social Work professionals working together to implement an integrated treatment plan within a safe and welcoming trauma-responsive environment!

YOUR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Works within a therapeutic community of care by informing and supporting the implementation of future focused, strength-based, trauma responsive treatment, transition and discharge plans and interventions.
- Implements the daily cottage schedule, adhering to routines and rhythms and honoring the individual rituals, spiritual and cultural customs of youth.
- Stages appropriate therapeutic activities, including transportation.
- Ensures a clean, safe and welcoming cottage by daily checks, monitoring supply levels and submitting orders as needed.
- Supports the compliant distribution of self-administered medication.
- Completes written documentation and contact notes to program and funder standards.
- Demonstrates the ability to learn and apply Aspiranet’s identified models of practice including the Aspiranet Core Practice Model, Attachment Regulation and Competency (ARC), Youth Thrive / Strengthening Families Protective Factors Framework, Community Resiliency Model (CRM), Life Space Coaching and Crisis Intervention (LSCI), Professional Assault Crisis Training (ProAct), and Motivational Interviewing (MI).Supports the agency in sustaining a youth-centric focus by assisting youth in bringing forward his or her voice throughout the treatment process.
- Develops engaging and supportive relationships with youth, families, referring parties, collaborative partners and community providers.
- Monitors the success and barriers of interventions and reports them to team lead.
- Reports incidents and program concerns to direct supervisor.
- Provides crisis intervention support compliant with defined agency care and supervision standards.
- Prepares for and attends regular program meetings, training and supervision and participates in case formulation process.
- Maintains compliance with the The Joint Commission, Community Care Licensing, CA Department of Health Care Services, and applicable regulatory and funder requirements, in addition to agency policies and procedures.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
YOUR EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
- Must possess any ONE of the following:
- A BS or BA degree in Psychology, Sociology, or Social Work, or a related field, OR
- A valid child development teaching permit, OR
- Have completed 12 semester units of early childhood education, psychology, adolescent development, or foster and kinship care education, OR
- A valid certificate as an alcohol and/or drug counselor, OR
- Have previously been employed as a staff or volunteer at a group home or short-term residential therapeutic center, OR
- Have relevant life experience in the child welfare, mental health or juvenile justice systems as a consumer, mentor or caregiver, or life experience with children who have experienced high levels of trauma, or other relevant experience as determined by the department.
- Ability to work evenings, weekends and holidays.
- Proficiency using a computer and Microsoft Word, and Outlook.
- Must meet all state required conditions of employment as set forth by Community Care Licensing for a licensed community care facility, i.e. Fingerprint and Child Abuse Index Clearance, TB/health physical, and a valid California driver’s license and clean driving record.
