Summary:
Position entails the alteration or assembly of manufactured products to customer specifications by utilizing shop equipment and/or tools. Maintain and operate shop equipment and tools, performing quality work. The job entails:
Tasks:
- Fits and aligns fabricated parts to be welded or assembled.
- Plan and develop layouts from blueprints and templates, applying basic math skills.
- Lay out and install, bulkheads, flanges, and miscellaneous piping accessories and frames to polyethylene storage tanks.
- Mark curves, lines, and holes onto work pieces using punches, and power tools.
- Layout dimensions, and determine and mark reference points on polyethylene storage tanks or work pieces for further processing, such as welding and assembly. Locate center lines and verify template positions, using measuring instruments such as gauge blocks, height gauges, and dial indicators.
- Lift and position workpieces in relation to surface plates, manually or with hoists, and using parallel blocks and angle plates.
- Plan locations and sequences of cutting, drilling, bending, rolling, punching, and welding operations, using compasses, protractors, dividers, and rules.
- Inspect machined parts to verify conformance to specifications.
- Design and prepare templates of wood, paper, or metal.
- Brace parts in position within hulls or ships for riveting or welding.
- Add dimensional details to blueprints or drawings made by other workers.
- Install doors, hatches, brackets, and clips.
- Apply pigment to layout surfaces, using paint brushes.
- Climb on and into polyethylene storage tanks for assembly of piping accessories, lids, and customer specified products.
- Lift, clean, prepare, and package finished goods.
Knowledge
- Mathematics - Basic
- Mechanical - Knowledge of tools and their use.
- Construction - Knowledge of materials, methods, and the use of tools involved in the general construction
- Production and Processing - Knowledge of polymer materials, production processes, and quality control.
- Design - Ability to read build sheets, and blue prints.
Education
High school diploma or equivalent.
Related Experience
Some previous work-related skill, knowledge, or experience in construction trades with mechanical aptitude is needed.
