SUMMARY
Reporting to the Vice President of Operations, the Truck Shop Manager is responsible for the overall direction, management, coordination and evaluation of all transportation operations. This includes fleet maintenance, DOT compliance, quality SOPs, recruiting and hiring, as well as overseeing brokerage lanes. The Truck Shop Manager is also responsible for driver programs regarding performance, training, safety, certifications and company policies and procedures.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Provides direction, coordination and evaluation of all transportation operations
• Manages fleet maintenance including tractors and trailers
• Supervises dispatchers in the scheduling and utilization of drivers and fleet
• Evaluates routes, loads and delivery requirements to minimize expenses and increase efficiencies
• Interact with other departments to facilitate the most efficient use of fleet resources with regard to sales, production, procurement and movement of goods between multiple locations
• Manages vendors for third party logistics, equipment, services, parts and supplies
• Sources and evaluates equipment for expansion, replacement and disposal
• Interviews new hires and handles disciplinary actions; monitors employee performance
• Payroll duties by collecting, calculating, and entering data into the payroll system, as well as retrieving data when necessary
• Knowledge and understanding of the DOT requirements to oversee a successful and compliant transportation/maintenance department
• Provide employees with a defensive driving course, also known as the Smith System, to increase the safety of drivers
• Monitor employee performance and evaluate/issue raises and bonuses of employees
• Handle disciplinary action for all employees as necessary
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
• Oversee all brokerage lanes to ensure transportation efficiency and cooperativeness
• Work with D&D Ingredients, LLC (parent company) to ensure effective communication and connections
• Assist with dispatching in the case of absences
• Evaluate equipment-based issues on the road to determine the best plan of action
• Advising dispatch on any problems that may arise as well as solving issues in order to avoid dispatch having to be attentive and away from other work
• Other duties and/or special projects as assigned

• DOT and FMCSA regulations, DMV and CARB
• Basic financial concepts of budgeting, forecasting, P&L statements, capital spending
• Multiple types of equipment and pneumatics

REQUIREMENTS:
At least five (5) years’ experience in transportation, preferably in a supervisory role
• Bachelor’s degree in Transportation/Logistics or Business preferred; combination of education and experience and/or proven work experience in similar role may be reviewed and taken under consideration
• Transportation field knowledge
• Strong computer skills
• Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
• Strong leadership and supervisory skills
• Detail-oriented and thorough; analytical abilities
• Valid driver’s license and insurable driving record; class A CDL license preferred
PHYSICAL & MENTAL REQUIREMENTS: The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling and climbing. Frequent lifting, and or moving over 50 pounds. Constant use of overall vision; frequent reading and close up work.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed based on a 24/7 operation schedule at one site. Work is performed in outside weather conditions on occasion but not frequently. Varied work schedule, including weekends, nights, and holidays. Some travel may be required.
