The Associated Students (AS) is a comprehensive campus auxiliary corporation of CSU, Chico serving thousands of students, faculty, staff and community members through myriad student programs, services and business enterprises. With an annual budget of more than $21M, the AS operates residential and retail dining services, the Bell Memorial Union, the Wildcat Recreation Center (WREC), and administers the contract for the Wildcat Store (bookstore). Additionally, the AS offers a wide variety of services and programs such as: CAVE (Community Action Volunteers in Education), Child Development Lab, Adventure Outings, Recycling, Sustainability and student government. The AS employs more than 100 full and part-time employees and more than 750 students.

The Associated Students is now hiring for the position of CAVE Student Director - Kids. This is a part-time, non-benefited student position that will work no more than 20 hours per week while school is in session. The pay rate is $15.76 per hour. The schedule for this position is based upon department needs and is subject to change at any time. To be eligible for student employment, you must be enrolled at CSU, Chico with at least 6 units (undergraduate student) or 4 units (graduate student).

SUMMARY

The Program Directors coordinate the administration of CAVE volunteer programs. These positions are one academic-year appointments which require15-20 hours per week depending on programming needs. These positions work during the summer and during intersession to prepare for the upcoming semester.

TYPICAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Complete requirements as outlined on Staff Agreement
  • Provide exceptional customer service and be knowledgeable about CAVE programs and practices
  • Recruit, interview, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate Student Program Coordinators
  • Develop strategies and opportunities for staff members to be successful leaders and fulfill job requirements
  • Train and assist coordinators as they recruit, interview, hire, train, and supervise Group Leaders and Interns
  • Assist staff to complete CAVE talks
  • Communicate programming information to coordinators and interns
  • Assist Student Program Coordinators to develop volunteer orientations and feedback
  • Facilitate conflict resolution among CAVE student staff, volunteers, faculty and community partners
  • Provide effective feedback to and recognize success of Student Program Coordinators, Group Leaders, and Interns
  • Monitor assignments and attendance of Student Program Coordinators, Group Leaders, and Interns
  • Coordinate record keeping
  • Review volunteer packets to ensure accuracy and completion
  • Reconcile academic records and submit grade recommendations
  • Maintain database of programmatic placements and distribute to community partners
  • Train staff on risk management principles and assure placement process protocols are followed
  • Keep files on server organized
  • Attend, support, and facilitate trainings, meetings, and program activities
  • Participate in weekly Leadership Committee meetings
  • Plan and facilitate weekly program meetings and monthly all CAVE staff meetings
  • Plan and facilitate CAVE staff training sessions
  • Monitor program expenditures and submit funding requests
  • Continually assess program and update Program Manual
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships within the CAVE office and in the community
  • Other duties as required

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is performed in the CAVE Office and throughout the Bell Memorial Union, in an office environment, and possibly outside environments; continuous contact with staff, campus community, and public.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to move throughout campus and various Associated Students departments; sit for extended periods; manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; verbal communication; use of office equipment including computers, telephones, calculators, copiers, scanners and FAX. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • One year CAVE staff member experience required
  • One year as a CAVE Program Coordinator or equivalent supervisorial experience preferred
  • Must be currently enrolled in 6-units CSU, Chico (Open University, Continuing Education, or Butte College units not applicable)
