The Associated Students of CSU, Chico is recruiting for Director of AS Government Affairs. This is a full-time, full-year (2080 hours), exempt position. The pay range begins at $85,000/year ; placement in range depends on experience.

The Associated Students (AS) is a comprehensive campus auxiliary corporation of CSU,Chico serving thousands of students, faculty, staff and community members through myriad student programs, services and business enterprises. With an annual budget of more than $21M, the AS operates residential and retail dining services, the Bell Memorial Union, the Wildcat Recreation Center (WREC), and administers the contract for the Wildcat Store (bookstore). Additionally, the AS offers a wide variety of services and programs such as: CAVE (Community Action Volunteers in Education), Child Development Lab, Adventure Outings, Recycling, Sustainability and student government. Typically, the AS employs more than 100 full and part-time employees and more than 750 students.

DIRECTOR, AS GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS

SUMMARY
Under general direction to plan, organize, manage, direct, coordinate and develop the cultural, social, educational, and service objectives of Government Affairs. Oversee operations of assigned staff-managed AS programs, and do related work as required. This is a management position with oversight and responsibility for the primary function and programs of elected student representatives, their councils and committees, along with responsibility for the general management and administration of designated Associated Students program areas
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Provides leadership, advice, mentoring and support to elected students, student program directors and assigned staff.
  • Primary advisor to the Government Affairs Committee and Student Academic Senate and their elected representatives.
  • Supports the Government Affairs Coordinator with advising the elected Commissioners and their councils.
  • Oversees the planning, direction, and management of designated staff-managed and student-run programs.
  • Initiates, coordinates, oversees and conducts internship programs within Government Affairs.
  • Ensures the programs achieve the educational, social, cultural, and service objectives keeping with the AS mission statement.
  • Recruits, selects, trains, schedules, supervises and evaluates assigned staff.
  • Assists with the development and administration of the individual program area budgets. Initiates necessary administrative and fiscal control actions to meet budget projections.
  • Ensures that staff managers assist students with program development, group goal setting and budget development.
  • Reviews all contracts within assigned program areas and makes recommendation to Risk Manager for approval.
  • Monitors risk management aspects of AS programs. Make recommendations to Risk Manager and take appropriate action as directed.
  • Assists with the development and implementation of strategic plans for the AS program areas.
  • Contributes to corporate wide policy development.
  • Coordinates and manages the AS Strategic Plan Committees ensuring elected student involvement and collaboration with career staff.
  • Maintains regular communication with the Executive Director and other appropriate management staff.
  • Serves as designated representative to committees and with the campus, community, the public, and other organizations as required.

  • Ensure that student fee programs and services meet the needs of the Associated Students and campus community.
  • Organize data, maintain records and prepare reports.
  • Develop and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with colleagues, supervisors and all constituencies contacted during the course of work.
  • Work well under pressure: meeting multiple and sometimes competing deadlines.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • Five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience in the administration and development of student fee funded programs, functions, and operations.
  • Two (2) years in a supervisory or management position.
  • Bachelor’s degree
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
  • Master’s degree

  • Possession of or ability to obtain a current and valid California Driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
