What are the responsibilities and job description for the Biomedical Research Workforce Intern position at Association of American Medical Colleges?
One of the projects under this umbrella focuses specifically on understanding the current needs and opportunities for people with disabilities in the research environment. The intern will help to advance these efforts through in-depth research and analysis as well as engagement with community partners and relevant academic initiatives.
Through this internship, you will have the opportunity to:
- Gain exposure to issues related to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the biomedical research workforce.
- Apply qualitative research practices and technical writing skills to research projects and reports.
- Acquire career and professional development experiences through participation in informational interviews, workshops and other learning opportunities sponsored by the AAMC.
Responsibilities:
- For their main research project, the intern will work on a landscape analysis of current resources, policies, and best practices for people with disabilities in STEM and develop a research brief and/or website featuring their findings.
- Conduct literature reviews, attend relevant webinars and meetings, engage with key initiatives and constituents in academic medicine, stay up to date with relevant policy issues by following press and trade publications.
- Actively participate in team meetings and report on progress of assigned tasks and responsibilities.
- Prepare and deliver a formal presentation on research and results.
Qualifications:
- A strong interest in scientific research, public policy, and/or workforce issues and a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Knowledge of basic research methods and experience conducting research, either in a work or educational setting.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Intellectual curiosity and a desire to learn and receive feedback, along with good judgment, time management, and decision-making skills.
- Demonstrates professionalism and punctuality when completing assignments and in engagement with internal and external audiences.
- Organized, detail-oriented and able to maintain accuracy and impartiality in all work products.
- Must be comfortable working remotely, familiarity with Zoom and Microsoft Teams a plus.
- Current undergraduate student, all majors are eligible for consideration.

This position may be eligible for remote work.If a bachelor's degree is required, related work experience may be substituted in some positions. One year of college course work at an accredited institution is equivalent to one year of related work experience.
