Aster exists to extend the capabilities of women’s health providers, to reverse the decades-long increase in maternal mortality here in the U.S. Aster is a patient management and practice management software tool, specially designed to help with early detection of pregnancy complications, as well as broader women’s health conditions such as sexual health, gynecology and menopause. Aster is live and active serving providers and patients in 10 U.S. States and is growing rapidly to service demand.
The company is founded by a team of clinicians, designers, and engineers who have an incredible founder-fit to solve this problem, alongside a personal connection to the problem. Our co-founders are Fifi & Lailah. Fifi Kara is a 2x founder, YC alum, and Fulbright Scholar who most recently supported Meta’s Health & Fitness team in the AR division; she holds a Bachelor’s degree in Social Policy & Government from the London School of Economics. Dr. Lailah Kara-Newton is a trained physician who earned her MBBS degree from Barts and The London School of Medicine; she also holds a Bachelor's degree in Global Public Health. Dr. Lailah has practiced medicine for 7 years with a focus on Obstetrics and gynecology; she also conducted research in conjunction with the World Health Organization and the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists on the topic of antenatal testing in resource-poor communities and the impact of loss and stillbirth.
About the role
As a Product Designer at Aster, you will create intuitive, user-centered experiences that enhance women’s health providers' workflows, ultimately improving patient care and practice efficiency. This role requires collaboration with engineers and clinicians to translate user needs into high-fidelity mockups and prototypes, ensuring design consistency and quality across all features. You will also manage user feedback to refine design specifications, evolve our design system, and maintain a high standard of implementation in the final product. This role is for someone mission driven, who cares about improving the lives and wellbeing of women and birthing people.
Responsibilities
- Lead design for end-to-end features that streamline workflows for women’s health providers, improving patient care and overall practice efficiency.
- Partner with engineers and clinicians to translate user needs into intuitive, user-centered experiences.
- Craft high-fidelity mockups and prototypes to facilitate feedback sessions alongside engineering hand-offs.
- Continue to evolve our design system and component library to ensure a consistent, high-quality user experience across features.
- Manage user feedback on product usability that can be translated into improved design specifications.
- Help ensure that the design is implemented into the final product to the specification, maintaining a high level of quality for your engineering partners.
Requirements
- Startup experience or founded your own side-gig/business.
- 5 years of experience as a Product Designer, strong focus on visual design.
- Experience shipping features that are complex in scope and encompass an end-to-end experience that involves numerous stakeholders, namely; patients, providers and additional partners.
- 5 years experience of interaction design, with solid understanding of how products should behave based on people’s unique needs in this field and in the context of being a patient. This means being able to utilize prototyping skills that demonstrate how interaction design will work as much as visual design.
- A portfolio showcasing the ability to design user-centered interfaces for complex applications.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple design products with a small engineering team.
- Focused and clear communicator who values accountability, transparency and bridge building.
- A passion for healthcare and improving the lives of those typically underserved.
